Gamers are an increasingly popular demographic in anime. This brings with it new, geeky romances for fans to fawn over. Whether one or both of the parties involved is a gamer, there is no end to the loving shenanigans that these characters get up to when one of them enjoys playing video games.

Gamer romances are some of the best anime pairings. This is usually because they have no pretext between them. Gamer couples tend to be a little nervous but overall genuine when their relationships start. Though things may become rocky and awkward at the beginning, it allows the gamer couples to learn and grow with each other. The best gamer anime romances level up their series to make them even more endearing than other traditional romantic anime couples.

Kazuma Sato & Megumin Cheer Each Other on When No One Else Does

Stream KonoSuba on Crunchyroll

Kazuma Sato is a video gamer to his core. He is so invested in them that he essentially doesn’t leave his room unless it’s absolutely necessary. This, unfortunately, proves to be his downfall, as he perishes from a heart attack while he believes he’s saving another from an oncoming tractor. Now sent to live in a new world, Kazuma has to learn to give up a lot of his gamer ways if he hopes to make a living. Thankfully, he has a few good friends by his side to help him — especially when it comes to an Arch Wizard named Megumin.

Megumin only uses one spell, but she hones it as much as she can. She shows Kazuma that dedicating oneself to a task isn’t a burden but a privilege of learning something well. Likewise, Kazuma encourages Megumin’s love of her explosion spell when everyone else tries to get her to learn more. While they aren’t officially together in KonoSuba, their feelings for each other are palpable to many fans, who hope that Kazuma and Megumin open their eyes to the possibility one day.

Although they know the world they live in is not real, that doesn’t stop them from pretending — at least for a while — that the game is truly their real home. This is because they are so in love with each other that they find a way to make their new world feel like home.

Kirito and Asuna would crawl to the ends of the earth if it meant saving or standing up for each other. Their relationship can seem a bit intense and fast-paced at times, but that is because they don’t know if they can count on tomorrow. Kirito and Asuna are incredibly excellent fighters who find happiness in their new life based on the kindness they show one another.

Katarina Claes was so infatuated with an otome game when she lived in the real world that it literally became her life. Now trapped in FORTUNE LOVER as the villainess, Katarina does her best to avoid any Bad Endings. However, this newfound kindness has led to all of her peers falling head-over-heels for her. No matter which of her friends fans are rooting for, all the pairings have their merits.

Katarina is so loving and doting that it would be hard not to fall for such a charismatic person. The others tend to show their jealousy while they are all trying to get Katarina’s attention, but it is born from a place of admiration. No matter who Katarina chooses, it will be a good match because Katarina knows exactly what makes them tick (from playing the game so much in the real world). Though none of them are officially together, fans can hope that the anime continues to share Katarina’s journey to find love in the most unexpected place.

Because they are teenagers, Gojo and Marin are a bit uneasy around each other at the beginning, but once they confess, things begin to run a lot more smoothly. Gojo and Marin support each other’s hobbies and take a genuine interest in learning more about them. Taro Kabakura & Hanako Koyanagi Are Most Comfortable Together

Stream Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku on Amazon Prime Video

Taro Kabakura and Hanako Koyanagi from Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku.
Image via A-1 Pictures

Taro Kabakura and Hanako Koyanagi are not the main gamer couple of Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku, but they are much more engaging and loving than Narumi Momose and Hirotaka Nifuji. Firstly, Kabakura and Koyanagi have been together since they were in high school. Narumi and Hirotaka have known each other for longer, but they didn’t start dating until they were adults. Kabakura and Koyanagi, on the other hand, met in high school and began dating as Kabakura was graduating.

The high school sweetheart angle to their romance is precious, but the best part about them is how tender they are with each other (at least when no one is watching). Though they bicker in public a lot, their shared idea of the perfect day is a quiet day at home reading manga together. Kabakura and Koyanagi are so in love that they even wear matching necklaces to remind each other of one another throughout the day. It’s so obvious that Kabakura and Koyanagi love each other that they put the other featured couples in Wotakoi to shame.
