When skinny little Steve Rogers, a man whose bravery and heart were far larger than his muscles and body, elected to become injected with the experimental Super Soldier Serum, history would never be the same. The Super Soldier Serum transformed him into Captain America, the absolute pinnacle of human performance. Steve Roger’s brand-new body propelled him to the front lines of World War II, where he became not only the shining beacon of hope and positivity for the US but also the single greatest soldier in the entire war.
When Captain America was thawed out from his frozen suspension and brought back into the modern world, his amazing powers hadn’t diminished. Once again, Captain America quickly became one of the world’s greatest superheroes. Captain America became a key member when the Avengers formed, lending his fantastic skills and talents to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. But there was a recent moment where it was revealed that Cap might have a superpower that’s never been discussed before and hasn’t been discussed since. While not as wondrous as the power of flight or teleportation, this newly revealed power could be a game-changer for Captain America in his battle against evil.

Captain America Gained Amazing Powers From the Super Soldier Serum
It Turned Him Into a Near Demigod

The Super Solider Serum that Steve Rogers was administered transformed his body into a walking machine of perfection. As a Super Solider, Cap exists at the very peak of human potential and performance at all times, without any effort.
With the bonus of his muscles never producing lactic acid, he can perform at peak performance without tiring. Of all Cap’s powers, the fact that he never tires classifies him best as a superhero; it is superhuman for him to rarely produce lactic acid. Aside from his amazing physical prowess, this detail really puts him over the edge.
Having a grown 6’ 2’’ man running at 27.7 miles an hour with the strength to deadlift 1,104 lbs. with a vibranium shield in his hand directly at his enemies is not a joke.
Sheer’s physical performance alone is great, but what truly puts Cap above the rest is the decades of military combat experience he’s gained on and off the battlefield. Cap is a master of multiple martial arts styles; he can operate virtually any weapon and vehicle and is a master tactician and strategist.
Steve Rogers may not be a brilliant scientist like Tony Stark or Hank Pym, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have an exceptional amount of intelligence and expertise to his name. Few people are as gifted in battle and dependable as a companion on the battlefield as Captain America.

Maria Hill Randomly Revealed That Captain America Has Bullet-Proof Skin
How Did No One Know About This Before?

Captain America’s powers have been well-defined since his debut. With the aid of his trusty vibranium shield, Cap has long been a pillar in the superhero community. But in 2022’s Secret Invasion limited series (by Ryan North, Francesco Mobili, and Jordie Bellaire), it was revealed that Captain America had another very powerful ability that’s never been touched on before.
When Maria Hill gathers the world’s strongest superheroes to inform them of a new burgeoning Skrull invasion, her guards aim their weapons at the assembled heroes. Iron Man remarks that bullets won’t have much of an effect on most of the heroes present, prompting Hill’s quick reply.
She states that the bullets are not ordinary bullets but high-powered custom armor-piercing rounds capable of penetrating even Iron Man’s armor.
She continued to state that the bullets were powerful enough to pierce even Captain America’s skin. In that single sentence, Maria Hill revealed that Captain America naturally has bullet-proof skin. The way she says it ranks it alongside the durability of Iron Man’s armor and other extremely durable and damage-resistant materials.
What makes this single sentence so impactful is that it’s never really been established before that Captain America had such power. Of all the battles he’s fought, all the enemies he’s engaged in direct combat, and all the wounds he’s received over the years, it’s never been stated that Captain America has had the ability to withstand regular bullets.

Captain America Having Bullet-Proof Skin Is a Bit of a Big Deal
Most People Can’t Withstand Gunfire
There have been countless moments when Captain America has been shot at and injured. He served in World War II and has continued to battle the likes of Red Skull, Baron Zemo, and Crossbones. HYDRA grunts have sprayed him with bullets more times than it’s rained on Earth. Most infamously, in 2007’s “The Death of the Dream” (by Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting), Cap is shot and killed by Crossbones and a brainwashed Sharon Carter.
Of all the times that Cap has been shot, this was the one that had the most impact. Watching Captain America die was a huge deal as a direct follow-up to the Civil War event. This was the death of one of the greatest Avengers ever. Having bullet-proof skin would have made the entire story completely different, considering Maria Hill stated that Cap now needs high-powered, armor-piercing rounds to hurt him.
It’s never been stated that the Super Solider Serum ever increased the thickness and durability of Captain America’s skin, as that would largely negate the need for his shield.
So it is very strange that Cap would have suddenly developed bullet-proof skin at some point, somewhere. This change must have happened post-sniping, but its exact details have never been addressed. Even stranger still is that Cap has been shot at after Crossbones fired at him. He has been shown to have taken damage in the past, not even from regular bullets but from explosions, physical strikes, and knife wounds, too. This makes it very odd that somehow, only Maria Hill would be the one to drop the fact that Cap has bullet-proof skin randomly.
It’s not outside the realm of possibility that it could have done such a thing – there’s a reason countless scientists have scrambled to replicate the Super Solider Serum for decades – but it’s just odd that it’s never been shown explicitly before. Watching Captain America take six rounds to the chest without any armor on would have been a very easy and clear way to depict this ability. But as that’s never happened before, it’s very strange that it would take Maria Hill in a random meeting to drop that information.

Captain America’s Super Power Hasn’t Been Talked About Since
It’s An Odd Thing to Suddenly Drop and Forget

What also makes Maria Hill’s revelation about Captain America’s bullet-proof skin so strange is that not only did no other heroes question it, but it’s also never been mentioned since. In the years since Secret Invasion was released, there hasn’t been any other mention or depiction of Cap being able to take regular bullets without lethal results. It’s important to understand that Hill never fully divulged exactly how strong Cap’s skin might be and how well he could take regular bullets, but the fact he can take any at all is a big deal.
If this new ability is ever brought back, it would change how Captain America ranks among his fellow Avengers.
Hawkeye, Tigra, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and many other heroes can’t withstand gunfire. This would put Cap alongside Thor, Iron Man, Vision, and Hulk, albeit to a much lesser degree. But this would also mean that villains such as Crossbones, Flagsmasher, and Baron Zemo would have to find alternative types of ammunition to equip themselves with.
It might not change Cap’s core stories too much, but it’s a hefty upgrade to drop and then breeze past casually. It also raises the question of whether Cap will gain new abilities in the coming years. Captain America is already a force to be reckoned with; new powers might finally make him truly superhuman.
