Candidly, I didn’t understand the hype about the best sleep masks for quite some time. While they always seemed so chic (à la Audrey Hepburn’s iconic blue mask in Breakfast at Tiffany’s), I never took the step to embrace the eye coverings for myself—that is, until I started traveling more regularly and my circadian rhythm was completely thrown for a loop. I discovered that the simple act of slipping a silky sleep mask on in flight or at my destination was absolutely transformative for helping me get the rest I needed—not to mention they can feel amazing.

Vogue’s Favorite Sleep Masks:

Now I always keep a sleep mask next to my bed, for those nights I feel restless, and I always pack one in my carry-on when I travel near or far. Of course, there are so many different sleep masks to choose from, from luxurious silky options to more high-tech sleep support. Here, I’ve rounded up the best sleep masks to help you rest easier.

Best Silk: Eberjey Inez Washable Silk Eye Mask

Eberjey

  • Why We Love It: If you’ve ever slipped into a luxe set of Eberjey pajamas, then you know the brand certainly knows its way around silk. This eye mask is no exception. It features a small amount of filling for subtle, pillow-like comfort against your face and comes in a host of colors that make for a nice gift when in doubt. Plus, like the rest of its silk sleepwear line, it’s machine washable.
  • Material: Washable silk
  • Colors: 8 (ivory, faded denim, eucalyptus, canal blue, etc.)

Best for Travel: Slip Meribella Contour Sleep Mask

  • Why We Love It: One of my pet peeves during travel is taking off my sleep mask to find my makeup has smudged and left stains on the fabric. This face-contoured mask solves that issue, as it’s designed to fit around the eyes rather than simply cover them. Another thing I love about Slip eye masks is that they come in so many fun colors and patterns, like this whimsical mermaid design.
  • Material: Mulberry silk
  • Colors: 7 (pink, lavender, black, etc.)

Best for Wrinkles: Drowsy Silk Sleep Mask

  • Why We Love It: Many silk eye masks will tout their ability to minimize wrinkles around the eyes. How does that work, exactly? Well, those with a silky fabrication can protect the skin around your eyes from friction and minimize creasing from pillows and bedsheets. Plus, silk can help keep your skin hydrated and looking fresh. If all those potential benefits sound enticing, your best bet is a sleep mask with a wide surface area, like this one from Drowsy. It’s made of pure mulberry silk, which feels incredibly soft and luxurious against the skin. This sleep mask also features soft padding, which provides additional comfort and light blocking. And since it wraps around the face, this mask will stay put throughout the night—which means it’s ideal for side sleepers or anyone who shifts around a lot in their sleep.
  • Material: Mulberry silk
  • Colors: 13 (midnight blue, black, rose, dusty gold, etc.)

Chicest Eye Mask: Olivia von Halle Audrey Eye Mask

  • Why We Love It: A Vogue editor favorite, Olivia von Halle unquestionably makes the most gorgeous sleep masks. The current collection features some breathtaking prints, but we’re partial to these painterly florals. Plus, each pair comes with a matching case, perfect for travel or gifting. Pair your 100% silk OvH mask with a matching set of PJs for a complete look.
  • Material: 100% silk
  • Colors: 29 (a mix of patterns, embroidery, and solids)

Best Blackout Mask: Therabody SleepMask

  • Why We Love It: If sleep troubles have you reaching for a mask, allow us to redirect you to this more high-tech option. Not only does this Therabody mask block out 100% of light, but it also features three adjustable sleep-inducing vibration patterns that have been studied to help you relax and get better quality sleep. Despite all this tech, the mask is also quite comfortable, thanks to plush padding around the eyes. Plus, the inner layer is machine washable to keep your skin safe.
  • Material: Synthetic
  • Colors: 1 (navy blue)

Best Weighted: Nodpod Sleep Mask

  • Why We Love It: If you’ve ever used a weighted blanket, you know just how soothing and blissful it can feel against your body. Nodpod took that same concept and created a sleep mask with just enough weight to help calm your mind and body. It comes in six lovely colors, and the supersoft fleece outer layer is machine washable.
  • Material: 100% cotton
  • Colors: 6 (black, grey, sage, blush, etc.)

Best Cooling Sleep Mask: TheraIce Sleep Mask

  • Why We Love It: This soothing eye mask features an internal gel layer that can provide cold or heat therapy around the eyes and on your forehead; simply toss it in the freezer or microwave. This can be great for helping with puffiness, and I personally find it feels incredible when dealing with a migraine (especially since this sleep mask also blocks out 100% of light). It also has just a bit of weight and slight pressure for additional comfort and relief.
  • Material: Synthetic
  • Colors: 1 (black)
