No official release date has been announced for the Season 3 premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but Nami Melumad, who composes the music for the series, says to expect “surprises.” Melumad, while speaking with Screen Rant about her newest project, the Pixar mini-series, Dream Productions, teased season 3 of the series, which currently boasts a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score. Melumad also composed scores for the animated series, Star Trek: Prodigy, and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

One thing for sure, though, Melumad said fans shouldn’t expect another musical episode like “Subspace Rhapsody” from Season 2.There’s not another musical episode, but it’s my favorite season,” Melumad said of the forthcoming third installment of Strange New Worlds, which stars Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn.

I have a very high bar for Star Trek, and I really enjoyed it. There are very different genres in there. There will be surprises. It’s not a musical, but there are surprises. Musically, it was also very challenging. Sometimes, we used a different ensemble, so maybe that’s a hint for what’s coming,” Melumad said.

Fans Have Been Waiting for a New Season Since August 2023

The Season 2 finale of Strange New Worlds aired back in August 2023, so fans have been waiting quite a while for word on a third season premiere. Trek Central recently reported that Season 4 is already in pre-production, as it was confirmed in April 2024. Work on the fourth season of the series is set to happen between the first quarter of 2025 to July 2025, per Production Weekly.

In October 2024, a teaser video for Season 3 was released at New York Comic-Con, but since then, updates on the new season have been scarce. The three-minute teaser clip shows a scene from the third season which takes place right where the Season 2 finale ended with the U.S.S. Enterprise under attack by the Gorn.

Our Flag Means Death Actor Will Guest Star in Season 3

Season 3 will also bring with it a notable guest star in Rhys Darby, who recently appeared in Our Flag Means Death. At October’s Comic-Con panel, Henry Alonzo Myers, the co-showrunner of Strange New Worlds, said that Darby will play “a character that will be familiar yet completely new to folks that know Star Trek.” He added, “If you know Star Trek, you will have a lot of fun with him, and we had more fun than I could possibly imagine with him.”
