Chris Smith, the former CEO of the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), has been named the new leader of Escapees RV Club, which is now under the leadership of Harvest Hosts.
Smith’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the Escapees RV Club, which has been a part of the RV community for over 47 years. The club is renowned for providing RV enthusiasts with a supportive community, unique benefits, and memorable experiences.
Harvest Hosts, a membership program offering RVers access to unique camping locations such as farms, wineries, and attractions, acquired Escapees RV Club in July 2024. This acquisition set the stage for a new era, blending the innovative vision of Harvest Hosts with the established legacy of the Escapees community. The addition of Smith as a leader aims to enhance member experiences while maintaining the organization’s core values.
Smith brings extensive experience from his time at FMCA, where he spearheaded initiatives that broadened the association’s membership to include all RV owners and prospective owners.
During his tenure, he also expanded member benefits and introduced programs that strengthened community engagement.
Recognized as a leader within the RV industry, Smith received the RVIA’s “40 Under 40” leadership award in 2019. “As a long-time admirer of Escapees RV Club, I am honored to join the team and build upon its incredible legacy,” Smith said in a press release.
“Under Harvest Hosts’ leadership, we have a unique opportunity to expand the club’s reach, further enrich member experiences, and continue fostering a sense of belonging that has defined Escapees for nearly five decades,” Smith added.
Escapees RV Club, founded by the Peterson family in 1978, has cultivated a community for RV enthusiasts, including popular groups such as Xscapers and Birds-of-a-Feather. The organization has also provided resources, education, and events to support RVers in their journeys.
Joel Holland, CEO of Harvest Hosts, expressed enthusiasm for Smith’s appointment, stating, “Chris Smith is the perfect leader to uphold these values while charting a course for growth and innovation. His success at FMCA speaks for itself, and we are thrilled to have him join our mission to dominate the RV industry by delivering unparalleled value to RVers everywhere.”
