These days, Kat Dennings can be seen playing Tim Allen’s daughter in the hit ABC series Shifting Gears. However, more than two decades ago, she first played the daughter of late Full House star Bob Saget in a short-lived TV sitcom.
Back in 2001, Dennings and Saget co-starred in Raising Dad, a series that aired on The WB. In a new interview with People, Saget was remembered fondly by Dennings, who recalled how “protective” he had been with her on the set. While decades have since gone by, with Saget sadly passing away in 2022, Dennings has not forgotten the kindness that the legendary funnyman had shown her during the time they worked together on their TV show.

While Saget’s stand-up comedy could sometimes cause controversial, the consensus from people who’ve worked with him is that he was always very warm and friendly. Up until his death, he had stayed in touch with his Full House co-stars. That includes the Olsen twins, who did not participate in the Netflix sequel series, Fuller House. The Olsens reunited with the other Full House original cast members at Saget’s funeral to pay their respects in 2022, and John Stamos has more recently shared a photo of the reunion.

Saget was found dead in an Orlando, Florida hotel room on Jan. 9, 2022. At the time, he was doing a stand-up comedy tour, and he’d just performed the previous night. An autopsy revealed that Saget died of blunt head trauma, likely caused by a fall in his hotel room that night. He was 65 years old.

Raising Dad was created by Jonathan Katz. Saget played Matt Stewart, a widower raising two daughters with the help of his live-in father, Sam (Jerry Adler). While Dennings played one of Matt’s daughters, the other one was played by Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, known to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for her role as Carol Danvers. Meagan Good and Andy Kindler also starred.The show was canceled after one seasons, spanning a total of 22 episodes, with the series finale airing in May 2002.
Dennings would go on to make a bigger name for herself as one of the stars of the sitcom 2 Broke Girls. Nowadays, she has reunited with 2 Broke Girls showrunner Michelle Nader for Shifting Gears, playing the daughter of an automobile repair shop owner (Tim Allen) who shows up on his doorstep one day with two children in tow, looking for a place to live.
