Stars Wars spinoff series, Ahsoka, has already seen Hayden Christensen reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker. According to the Hollywood rumor mill, Natalie Portman may be set to return as Padmé Amidala in Season 2.

Portman’s rumored return to the faraway galaxy was revealed by podcast host Kristian Harloff, who said the actor was close to inking a deal with the studio. “It’d probably be a world between worlds type thing which, if you think about it, makes sense with the Ewan McGregor of it all and the young Ahsoka,” he added. “What I’m hearing [is that she’s] open to it. I don’t know if it’s a signed deal yet, but I think that it’s pretty close.”

One Controversial Star Wars Storyline Actually Makes More Sense Than Fans Realize

A recent Star Wars series made a shocking addition to Jedi lore, but the controversial storyline made perfect sense for Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan.

Portman made her Star Wars debut as Padmé Amidala in 1999’s The Phantom Menace. As the young Queen of Naboo, she was a brave and resourceful leader who fought to save her planet from invasion. In 2002’s Attack of the Clones, the character embraces her new role as a senator, where she works to prevent the Republic from falling into war. During this time, she grows closer to Anakin Skywalker, and the pair fall in love despite the Jedi Order’s strict rules against emotional attachments.

By 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, Padmé is secretly married to Anakin and pregnant with twins. However, their happy life takes a tragic turn when Anakin experiences visions of her death. Desperate to save her, he turns to the dark side. Although Padmé desperately tries to save him, she fails miserably as he has already been corrupted by Darth Sidious. Heartbroken and betrayed, she loses the will to live after giving birth to Luke and Leia.

Portman Was Initially Hesitant About Star Wars

When asked about a potential return to the Star Wars universe in 2023, Portman said she too would be open to returning if she was asked. But at the time, no one had contacted her about reprising her role in any capacity. “I have no information on this,” the actor explained, while responding to social media questions during a GQ Actually Me segment. “No one has ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it,” she continued.

In 2024, Portman revealed that she was concerned about getting pigeonholed after making her Star Wars debut in The Phantom Menace.I was worried about doing it, that I wouldn’t be able to do anything else after, because the series carries such a mythology in American life,” the actor explained. “But that was precisely why it was such an incredible opportunity. It bridged my career from a child to an adult,” she added.

The entire Star Wars prequel trilogy is available to stream on Disney+, along with Ahsoka Season 1. The second season of the hit series does not have a release date at this time.
