All My Children star Esta TerBlanche’s cause of death has been revealed.

TerBlanche died at 51 in July as a result of an “intracranial hemorrhage due to blunt force traumatic head injury likely due to a ground level fall,” according to a press release from the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner released Wednesday, The manner of death is listed as an accident.

She was found unresponsive at her home on July 19, 2024, and she was pronounced dead by paramedics just after 11 a.m., the release further states. A deputy medical examiner later completed an examination on July 22.

TerBlanche’s manager, Annie Spoliansky, confirmed the soap star’s death to Entertainment Weekly on July 21. “Esta was such a kind, loving, giving, and caring person,” Spoliansky said in a statement at the time. “She cared so deeply for all people and animals. She had squirrels she fed and looked after daily, her two cats, and recent kittens that she cared for as her own children. Esta was never anything but generous and lovely to me, and I’m grateful to have known her for the time that I did, and devastated to learn of her passing.”

TerBlanche was born in Rustenburg, South Africa, on Jan. 7, 1973. She got her start when she was crowned Miss Teen South Africa in 1991, and then immediately turned to acting. From 1992-1995, she starred in the popular drama Egoli: Place of Gold as Bienkie Naudé Hartman. She ultimately opted out of a contract renewal with that show in order to move to Los Angeles to further her career.

After starring in commercials and ad campaigns there, TerBlanche was eventually cast as Gillian Andrassy in All My Children in 1997. A Hungarian princess, Gillian was initially a troublemaking and arrogant character on the show but later evolved into a much kinder person. She was also famously one-half of a fan-favorite enemies-to-lovers pairing with Cameron Mathison’s Ryan Lavery that ended with the couple tying the knot.

TerBlanche reflected fondly on her time on the show — and her most notable role — in a 2024 interview with Soap Opera Digest.

“The people I worked with were all so wonderful,” TerBlanche said in the interview, published just a week before her death on July 13. “It was such a privilege to be on the show. Cameron was just phenomenal, and I feel so blessed that I was able to work with him. He really made every day just wonderful. It was just magical. I could not have been luckier.”
