Family Guy is headed to the “Danger Zone.”

The Fox animated series kicks off its 23rd season with a parody of Top Gun, and not much from the 1986 Tom Cruise blockbuster comes out unscathed.

See the exclusive clip below:

In it, patriarch Peter, who’s voiced by co-creator Seth MacFarlane, takes on Cruise’s role as Maverick. He gets romantic with Charlie (who was portrayed by Kelly McGillis in the movie), even serenading her in the bar, like he did in the original. It’s not clear, however, whether he’ll be singing the Righteous Brothers’ ballad You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, as Maverick did. Charlie is, of course, a version of Peter’s wife Lois, who’s voiced by Alex Borstein.

Son Stewie (also MacFarlane) pops up in a role that looks similar to Val Kilmer‘s “Iceman,” Maverick’s foe, flying alongside him and, yep, facing off against him in that beach volleyball match, with sunscreen, shades, and all.

The episode will delve into the tragic death of Maverick’s closest friend, Goose, who’ll be played by Patrick Warburton‘s macho character of Joe. Viewers will also get a taste of the 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick, when Peter’s son Chris fills the role of Goose’s son, Rooster (Miles Teller).

“Why’d you kill my dad?” the Seth Green-voiced character asks in a classroom scene, in which Maverick is instructing pilots. (Something Peter himself would most likely not be able to do.)

Even family dog Brian gets in on the mockery. Sitting behind a desk, he delivers the perilous news that “yet another unnamed country that is our enemy is planning something big.”

Family Guy, which premiered in 1999, has won nine Emmy Awards in its run. It’s known for its parodies of everything from Star Wars to Cool Hand Luke and Stand By Me to Back to the Future.

The new season of Family Guy premieres Sunday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on FOX and streams the next day on Hulu.
