Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters in less than two weeks. Ahead of the highly anticipated premiere, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige revealed his biggest hope for the film.

Speaking at a press conference, Feige explained how the movie should cement Anthony Mackie’s place as the new Captain America. “I think, in many ways, the victory has already happened, but it’s that full acceptance of Sam Wilson as Captain America, right?” he said via GamesRadar+. “That shield has been passed, and it feels like the audience knows it was passed to the right person, and I think this movie will solidify that more.”

Who Is Sidewinder, the Captain America: Brave New World Villain?

Giancarlo Esposito joins the MCU in Captain America: Brave New World, where he plays Sidewinder. Here’s an overview of his villainous character.

The film’s director, Julius Onah, shared the sentiment while pointing out Sam Wilson’s strengths. “This [movie] is about cementing Sam Wilson as our new Captain America,” he explained. “And his superpower is his empathy, and I want the audience to walk away with that emotional, inspiring idea of that empathy. Because I think the twists and the turns, the action, surprise, the fun ride that they will absolutely go on is about taking you to that emotional destination.”

Mackie made his MCU debut as Sam Wilson, who fought alongside Steve Rogers as the Falcon. At the conclusion of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, an aged Rogers entrusts his friend with his shield, symbolically passing on the mantle of Captain America to Sam. The 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier touched on Sam’s struggle with this newfound responsibility. With the help of Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Sam ultimately embraces his role.

Brave New World Presents A New Threat

Brave New World begins with the election of Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) as the President of the United States,” the official synopsis reads. “Sam Wilson finds himself at the center of an international incident and must work to stop the true masterminds behind it.” The movie also features Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, Cal Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon.

As Captain America: Brave New World Nears its theatrical release, fans are finding new details to look forward to in the trailers.

Mackie recently addressed comparisons between Ford’s character and U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that viewers should take the movie at face value and nothing more. “I hope, as a country, we’re tired of all the political jousting,” the actor said. “Let’s just go to the movies and chill the f**k out. We could’ve made this motherf***er yellow, and it would’ve been a problem, he added, referring to Ford’s transformation into Red Hulk.”

The actor previously opened up about the historical significance of being a Black Captain America. “I think it’s just as important for black kids to see a Black Captain America as it is for white kids,” Mackie explained. “Growing up, my favorite hero was green. It wasn’t about race or anything. It was about him being a good guy trying to do the right thing. It’s very important for kids of all races to be able to watch and have someone to look up to no matter what they look like.”

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters worldwide on Feb. 14.
