Paging Zac Efron. Your friend Adam Devine would like a word.

Devine’s costar from projects including 2016’s Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates left him hanging after telling him that he planned to stay at his home, Devine recounted on Wednesday’s episode of the podcast In Depth With Graham Bensinger.

“Zac calls me — hasn’t called me in a couple years — and calls me out of the blue. He’s on some private island somewhere, and he’s like ‘Hey man, I just want to let you know that I miss you.’ And I’m like, ‘I miss you too, dude. You’re a good friend of mine, yada, yada.’ And he’s like, ‘You still have that place down by the beach?’ And I’m like ‘I do.’ And he’s like, ‘Would it be cool if I came and crashed with you for two weeks?’ And I’m like ‘Uh, yeah, yeah, yeah, come stay with me. And he’s like ‘All right, I’m going to call you tomorrow to get all the details, and then I’ll be there early next week, OK?’ And then you’ll send me the address and all that.'”

Devine then told his wife, actress Chloe Bridges, whom he married in 2021. They share a son, Beau, who was born in February 2024.

“I’m like, ‘Chloe, I think Zac’s going to come live here for a couple weeks. I don’t know.’ And she’s like, ‘OK, yeah, I guess so,'” Devine recalled. “And then he ghosted me, dude. Never called back. I even texted him like, ‘Are you gonna stay here?’ And I haven’t talked with him since, so I have no idea, dude, no idea.”

The call followed Devine and his Mike and Dave costars Efron, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza, as well as director Jake Szymanski, texting about the fact that more people seem to be watching their movie lately.

On the same podcast, The Righteous Gemstones actor explained that he continues to be affected by a harrowing childhood experience: being run over by a cement truck when he was 11.

He revealed that he’s been in considerable pain over the last three years, which has made his life “a nightmare,” with him “having spasms all over.” He finds that it “hurts to sit for too long, it hurts to stand for too long, and it hurts to walk for too long.” His doctors told him in the past year that he was dying; however, a stem cell treatment has made him feel “the best I’ve been now for the past three years,” he said.
