Much like the toy line before it, the current iteration of Hasbro’s Transformers features an eclectic mix of nostalgic and somewhat obscure characters. This includes an upcoming 2-pack that showcases two characters in even more esoteric color schemes.

The Transformers: Age of the Primes Wreck ‘n Doom Collection Topspin vs. Spinister 2-pack has two classic Generation 1 Transformers with somewhat new looks. Repainting previous toys, these figures showcase the continued nostalgia focus of the brand’s main toy line. Coming complete with transforming weapons, the set is now available for preorder as the Age of the Primes begins.

Transformers: Age of the Primes is adding new versions of the G1 Aerialbots, including their mighty leader Silverbolt, in the upcoming 2025 toy line.

Classic Transformers 2-Pack Set Kicks Off the Age of the Primes

The first new Multipack for the Transformers: Age of the Primes toy line, the “Wreck ‘n Doom Collection” pits the Autobot Topspin against the evil Decepticon Spinister. The former ditches his usual blue and white color scheme in favor of a predominately red and dark blue one, as this is meant to homage the original Diaclone toy line that birthed Transformers. Likewise, Spinister wears the colors that he had in the Marvel Comics Transformers series, with said color scheme being notoriously inconsistent among fans. The figures themselves are repaints, with the Spinister toy originally being released as part of the Transformers: War for Cybertron: Siege series, whereas Topspin was in Transformers: Titans Return. As before, he transforms into a Cybertronian hovercraft, whereas Spinister turns into a genericized version of an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.

Spinister has not only two blasters of his own but also two Targetmaster partners (Hairsplitter and Singe) that transform from robots into guns. On the other hand, Topspin’s head transforms into the Headmaster robot, Freezeout. Both larger robots stand at around 5.5 inches in height, making them Deluxe Class toys. The set as a whole will cost US$49.99, and it’s now available for preorder with a scheduled Aug. 1 release date. The somewhat random repaints of these figures show how, despite the change in name, Transformers: Age of the Primes will have a very nostalgia-focused line that brings back some of the franchise’s most forgotten characters. Ranging from obscure G1 characters to Transformers from different anime and comic books, the scope goes far beyond the usual suspects of Autobots and Decepticons. Beyond these toys, it will also provide action figures for the Original 13 Primes, who are the ancestors of Optimus Prime himself.
