Reacher star Alan Ritchson doesn’t think it would be a good idea to turn the popular Prime Video series into a movie. He believes the current TV series format is the best way to handle the source material.

“That’s interesting,” Ritchson said to Men’s Journal when asked about a potential Reacher feature film. “I can’t speak to movies. I enjoy the format that we’ve got so much, and it works so well where we do a book a season. I think eight episodes seem to be the perfect amount of time to break out a book. I think it would probably do a disservice to the books.” Ritchson’s character was previously portrayed in film by Tom Cruise in 2012’s Jack Reacher and the 2016 sequel, Never Go Back.

Prime Video’s Citadel Season 2 Gets a Frustrating Update

The future of Prime Video’s Citadel series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra gets a frustrating update after Season 2 recently wrapped.

Ritchson added that, in his opinion, the way the current Prime Video adaptation is handling the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child is working nicely. “I don’t know if I’d fight for films. I like being able to weave in what feels like two, three, or four films around Reacher throughout the year. I’m happy with the way things are.”

The Jack Reacher novel series currently has 29 books and a short story collection, with a thirtieth book planned for release Nov. 4, 2025. Ritchson’s Reacher television adaptation recently aired its third season, with each new season covering one of the books. The first season adapted Child’s 1997 debut, Killing Floor, with Bad Luck and Trouble and Persuader following in the second and third seasons respectively.

Ritchson would love to keep playing the character and adapting as many books as possible. “Reacher is part of my life once a year, and there’s no end in sight for me. Amazon’s super committed to this, and we’re going to keep going for a long time,” he said.

Ritchson’s portrayal of Jack Reacher certainly appears to have the staying power capable of adapting many more of Child’s books. With the series debut in 2022, the show was the most streamed television series for the week of Feb. 7-13, making it the first Amazon production to achieve such an accomplishment. In the two seasons that have followed, it has continued to perform well among both critics and audiences and break records for Prime Video, with Amazon announcing a Season 4 order as well as a spin-off series called Neagley.

1923 Season 2 Will Be Shorter Than Expected (But With a Supersized Finale)

1923 fans can look forward to a supersized finale episode for Season 2 of the popular Yellowstone prequel series.

While Ritchson may see no end in sight for him playing Reacher, his dedication to the role recently took a dangerous turn. He revealed how he was knocked unconscious while filming the Season 3 finale, due to his insistence on filming his own stunts. “I was like, ‘I want the audience to know that I’m doing this for us. I’m taking one for Reacher, and we’re all in this together,'” he said of his risky decision, later adding: “I woke up a day and a half later. […] It was the worst few minutes of my life.”

The first three seasons of Reacher are now streaming on Prime Video.
