DC Studios co-head James Gunn says working on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has been “an extraordinary experience so far.” This comes after MCU star Sebastian Stan shared his excitement for the DCU film.
“Yeah, I think we’re midway through production now of Supergirl. It’s so scary every time I say it, but it’s been an extraordinary experience so far,” Gunn said at a DCU press event via Screen Rant. “The script was one of the first things that we greenlit when we got here. Ana [Nogueira] turned in a marvelous first script that just kept getting better.“

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow star David Krumholtz makes an official statement on his DC Universe casting.
“She’s been a blessing, and Craig Gillespie was a dream for me,” Gunn continued. “I, Tonya was one of my favorite movies, and he has been everything that I would hope for a director on a big project like this [when] working with him as a studio head. Which is weird to say, but I love working with him,” the filmmaker added.
Gunn previously talked about Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, admitting that he had no idea it would be the DCU’s second feature film. “I didn’t necessarily know that Supergirl would be the second movie we were going to make, but Ana [Nogueira] wrote an incredible script, and then we hired an incredible director, and we’re going to do this movie after Superman because he was the best option.”
Gunn Praised The DCU’s Supergirl Actor
In 2024, Gunn also touched upon Milly Alcock’s casting as Supergirl. “Strangely, Milly was the first person I brought up to Peter [Safran] for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics. I was watching House of the Dragon and thought she might have the edge, grace and authenticity we needed for the DCU’s Supergirl,” he said. “And now here we are. Life is wild sometimes.” Gunn officially introduced Supergirl with a behind-the-scenes look at Milly Alcock’s Kara.
