A proposal for a new glamping pod retreat in the Angus Glens has been submitted to local authorities, marking another addition to the growing glamping sector in the region.

The single-unit project, planned for Bellaty in Glen Isla near Backwater Reservoir, is positioned to cater to visitors seeking a secluded, nature-focused experience.

The proposed site is located approximately 11 miles from Kirriemuir and is accessible via the B951.

According to the Dunfermline-based applicant, the pod will offer a sustainable, small-scale accommodation option designed for short breaks and weekend stays.

“The small-scale, sustainable development will provide subtle and discreet countryside holiday accommodation,” the planning submission states.

Along with the lodging unit, the site plan includes parking and bicycle storage to encourage outdoor exploration, as reported by The Courier.

Angus Council will review the proposal as part of its planning process. If approved, the development would contribute to the expanding glamping market in the area, which has seen multiple similar projects in recent months.

A four-unit glamping site near Forfar recently received planning approval, featuring a boat accommodation option for a distinctive guest experience.

Additional glamping projects have been approved near Guthrie and Monikie Country Park, while a separate two-pod proposal for farmland at Newmill of Castleton is currently under consideration.

The continued rise of glamping developments in Angus reflects broader industry trends, with demand for alternative accommodations growing among travelers seeking unique, nature-immersive stays.

According to the September 2024 MC Hospitality Highlights report, searches for glamping have surged by 29% overall, with a 50% year-over-year increase in people seeking its definition.

This trend suggests rising consumer interest but also underscores the need for strategic marketing to convert that interest into bookings.

As more operators enter the space, businesses must differentiate their offerings and optimize their online presence to capture demand from travelers seeking unique, immersive stays.
