According to SteamDB, Assassin’s Creed Shadows now holds the record for the game in the series with the highest all-time peak player count on Steam. At the time of writing, this number sits at 63,055 but is still rising constantly. This takes the previous record by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which set an all-time peak player count of 62,069 over six years ago. It was recently revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already reached over 2 million players overall, and this latest record shows these strong figures.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Takes Odyssey’s All-Time Player Count Record on Steam

While taking this record is great news for Assassin’s Creed Shadows overall, it does come with one slight caveat. Back in 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla broke series sales records, but that title wouldn’t be released on Steam until 2022. This means that it’s difficult to say if Valhalla would have broken the record had it been released on Steam on day one. Still, it’s an impressive feat from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, showing that much of the controversy surrounding the game may have been overblown.
With Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ launch out of the way, fans can start to look forward to Ubisoft’s post-launch support for the game. Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ first DLC was revealed pre-launch, titled Claws of Awaji, which is set to bring over 10 hours of new content to the game. It’s not known how long the game will be supported for, but signs are good if it continues to sell well and break player count records.
