An Assassin’s Creed Shadows player has shared an interesting and often missed detail from the recently released entry, and it’s caused a debate to outbreak on Reddit. It’s fair to say Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and other entries in Ubisoft’s long-running series, have had their fair share of controversies in the run-up to launch and post. Thankfully, gamers are warmly receiving Shadows as an immersive and entertaining open-world RPG with plenty of hidden details to stumble across.

Serving as the 14th main entry in the greater franchise, Shadows follows shinobi Naoe and samurai Yasuke around Japan’s Sengoku period during tension between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. Assassin’s Creed Shadows players are raving about breakout star Junjiro, who becomes Naoe’s young companion at the Hideout, but there’s another starry detail that Redditors are currently debating.

Posted on Reddit by VoidzModerator, a few screenshots were shared on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit showing the impressive, stary night sky over Naoe’s head, similar to how Assassin’s Creed Shadows realistic snow is equally impressive. The screenshots highlighted several clusters of golden stars pinpricking the darkness with clouds passing in front. The player asked if these clusters were supposed to represent the galaxies of the real world, and despite not having played an Assassin’s Creed game for a long time, they thought Shadows’ predecessors boasted nicer-looking skies. Even though the OP called Shadows’ star system “ridiculous,” not every player agreed.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Players Debate the Realism of Game’s Starry Sky

Several gamers noted viewing the night sky without nearby light pollution often exposing giant clusters of stars similar to the sky in Shadows, and others mentioned The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had an accurate recreation of what the Milky Way is supposed to look like. Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduced the Animus Hub as a new feature, playing into the franchise’s returning virtual reality machine, and some Redditors believed the stars players were looking at in Shadows’ night sky were part of the Animus.

The impressive skyscape in Ubisoft’s action RPG is just one example of the visual wonders awaiting this Assassin’s Creed entry, but there is plenty more to discover. Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a wealth of impressive details waiting to be uncovered, including the game’s weather system and the flora and fauna it directly changes. NPCs have their own quirky details for players to pick up on too, including their habit of staring at Yasuke and not Naoe to show a samurai’s importance in society.
