10 Best American High School Comedy Films, Ranked
The American High School comedy genre has been something that audiences always connect too and will continue to connect with for years to come.
Sunny Dancer was first announced at Cannes 2024 and is the second feature film from British filmmaker George Jaques, who directed and co-wrote 2023’s Black Dog. Principal photography on Sunny Dancer is expected to begin in April 2025. The film has already been pre-sold to all European and Latin American territories by production company Embankment. True Brit Entertainment plans to have a wide 2026 U.K. world premiere release. Black Dog producer Ken Petrie will produce Sunny Dancer under his 27 Ten banner along with Jaques and his company, Athenaeum Productions.
Sunny Dancer was pitched as a “deeply personal, coming-of-age comedy, romance” and focuses on Ivy, played by Ramsey, who is not happy about attending a summer camp for kids with cancer. Ivy is in remission, and to her, “Chemo Camp” is “Cringe” and a “Hard Pass!” However, the film is described as a story that turns “the Hard Pass into the very best moments of life with love, true friendship and optimism, and humor.”
“I’m beyond excited to have such insanely talented people on board – absolute masters of their craft – coming together to create a movie that’s equal parts hilarious and gut-punching,” director Jaques said. “I want the audience to laugh till they cry, then actually cry, and walk away with a fresh perspective on how the young, in fighting for life, are seen – not as victims, but as bold, complex, and full of life.”
Embankment’s Hugo Grumbar added, “The movie’s key cast, production HoDs, and multiple pre-sale distributors recognize George and Ken as among the most exciting and refreshing of U.K. filmmakers – young polymath talent, closely in touch with the demands of the audience.”

Gunning’s Baby Reindeer Dominated the Awards Season
Baby Reindeer is based on a true story and was a hit for Netflix, having spent nine weeks on the streamer’s Top 10 charts. The series was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards in 2024 and won three, including Ramsey’s win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Creator, writer and actor Richard Gadd also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The show itself took home the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
The series followed Donnie Dunn (Gadd), an aspiring comedian and bartender who befriends a client who ends up turning into a stalker. The series, which concluded its run last year, consisted of seven episodes. It was intended as a limited series and, so far, that’s what Gadd is sticking with. When asked about the possibility of a second season, Gadd said, “No, I don’t think so. I was – I’m proud of that ending. I fought real hard for that ending. I really wanted Baby Reindeer to end in the way that it did. I really fought for that and I think it couldn’t have ended better.”
Baby Reindeer is streaming on Netflix. A release date for Sunny Dancer has not been announced.
