Ballet San Antonio, the city’s only professional ballet company, invites audiences on a journey through Neverland with the world premiere of Peter Pan, this February 21-23 at the Tobin Center.
For four performances, guests will join Wendy, John and Michael on a swashbuckling adventure with a mischievous pixie and a boy who will never grow up. Choreographed by Brian Enos, set to an original musical score by Zac Colwell, with set, prop and costume design by Jayme Ditto, the ballet includes a cast of 26 professional ballet dancers and children from the School of Ballet San Antonio.
Ballet San Antonio’s never-before-seen production offers a fresh twist on the 21st century classic. In true world premiere fashion, every element — from the music and choreography to the sets and costumes — is an original creation by the ballet company. Supported by an incredible team of artists, Ballet San Antonio aims to bring J.M. Barrie’s beloved tale to life, creating an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages to enjoy.
Send The Kids To The Ballet
This year, Ballet San Antonio will welcome local students to attend the show free of charge through its Send The Kids To The Ballet program. This season, 1,055 children from underserved communities will experience the magic of Peter Pan, made possible through generous donations by individuals, corporations and foundations.
Evin Eubanks, CEO of Ballet San Antonio, conceived the idea for Send The Kids To The Ballet in 2023, inspired by a fundraiser for the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives organization to enable their children to attend the ballet. With Send The Kids To The Ballet, she aims for Ballet San Antonio to provide access to the arts for children who may not otherwise be able to attend for free considering their personal, economic and geographic challenges.
Community impact
Since its launch, Send The Kids To The Ballet has transcended geographic and socioeconomic barriers, enhancing students’ access to life-changing cultural experiences. This 2024-2025 season, the program is expected to reach more than 5,000 children through 11 organizational partners, including Haven for Hope, the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio, Girls Inc. and Roy Maas Youth Alternatives.
Send The Kids To The Ballet is not the only community program Ballet San Antonio offers. In 2012, Ballet San Antonio and Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio partnered to launch Learning That Moves You, an innovative arts education program that offers dance and creative movement for underserved children ages 6-12. Last year, the ballet company expanded this program to summer camps, bringing the joy of ballet to even more young dreamers.
Research shows that the arts play a key role in childhood development. According to the National Endowment for the Arts, studies show positive associations between the arts and emotional regulation, a critical skill for well-adjusted children and adults. With their invitation to exploration, interaction and creative expression, the arts also have a powerful ability to boost children’s self-esteem.
By increasing access to the arts, Ballet San Antonio hopes to demonstrate to local students that they live in a world full of limitless possibilities, just as Peter Pan showed Wendy, John and Michael along their journey to Neverland. Furthermore, the ballet company hopes its rendition of Peter Pan will inspire them never to stop dreaming and envisioning a brighter future.
This February, Ballet San Antonio invites audiences to experience a performance full of pirouettes and enchanting realms with the world premiere of Peter Pan. Tickets are available now at www.tobincenter.org.
