Godzilla Minus One Is One of the Best Godzilla Movies Yet

The classic Kaiju, Godzilla, has been terrorizing Japan for decades. Now, one of the most compelling modern installations in the franchise, Godzilla Minus One, is available to stream on Netflix. Fans who had been waiting for the movie to release outside Japan were excited to finally be able to enjoy the movie from the comfort of their own homes.

Director Jeymes Samuel’s The Book of Clarence is one of the most unique takes on the “dramedy” subgenre. The movie follows the titular character (played by LaKeith Stanfield) in 33 A.D. as he struggles financially after losing a chariot race. To pay off his debt to a loan shark, he tries to capitalize on Jesus Christ’s rise in prominence – Clarence tries to claim himself as a Messiah.

The Book of Clarence is a bold cocktail of subgenres, including comedy, drama, and even a biblical period piece. While the movie could have delved deeper into its socially conscious themes, The Book of Clarence was well-received for its eccentric premise and comedic spin on the biblical subgenre. Though the film has faded from the subculture since its release, The Book of Clarence could always see a resurgence on its new streaming home.

Damsel Brings Another Millie Bobby Brown Project To Netflix

Damsel stars Millie Bobby Brown as Elodie, a young woman who accepts a marriage proposal to help her people. Upon accepting, she finds out that she is meant to be used as a sacrifice for a family’s ancient debts and works to evade a dragon trying to kill her. The film costars Ray Winstone, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson and Robin Wright.

Damsel is yet another darker fantasy tale offered by Netflix, with some similarities to The Witcher. The film placed number one on Netflix’s top ten movies list in its first 3 days of release. Brown continues an impressive streak on Netflix, which began in 2016 when she landed her breakout role as Eleven in Stranger Things, which is currently filming its long-awaited fifth and final season.

Rebel Ridge Is a Surprise Action-Thriller Hit For Netflix

Rebel Ridge is a new action-thriller from Netflix starring Aaron Pierre, who was recently cast in the DCU’s new Green Lantern series as John Stewart. Pierre plays Terry Richmond, a veteran who takes a stand against a town’s corrupt police force that illegally seized a large sum of money he needed to post bail for his unjustly arrested cousin. Taking on the police force, Richmond goes on a bloody, action-packed adventure to restore justice in his little corner of the world.

Rebel Ridge is a surprisingly well-made action film, especially compared to other recent Netflix originals. The film acts as a terrific vehicle to launch Pierre’s career, establishing the actor as a venerable action star. Complex and exciting, Rebel Ridge is certainly worth a watch for fans of action-thrillers.

Don’t Move Is a Terrific New Horror Film

Don’t Move is a new Netflix original horror thriller starring Yellowstone‘s Kelsey Asbille as Iris, a young woman who falls into the crosshairs of a nefarious killer, played by Finn Wittrock. Injected with a paralytic agent, Iris is set loose in a forest with the clock ticking down until she is completely paralyzed. Rapidly running out of time, Iris must make a terrifying decision: hide or fight.

Don’t Move is Netflix’s recent hit in the horror genre, complete with a terrific leading performance from Asbille and a memorable, terrifying villain in Wittrock. The movie makes great use of its unique premise, potentially kicking off a franchise of films. Fans of horror who are tired of the typical ins and outs of the genre are sure to love Don’t Move.

Carry-On Puts Taron Egerton In a Die-Hard Scenario

Carry-On is a new action-thriller film starring Taron Egerton as Ethan Kopeck, a typical TSA worker. Carry-On is the typical Die Hard-scenario movie, sporting many of the classic action tropes that have come to be associated with the genre. However, the film is distinguishable for its memorable performances, especially from Egerton, who continues his winning streak as a lovable action hero, and Bateman, who plays against type as a conniving villain. Alien: Romulus, the latest entry in the classic sci-fi franchise, stars Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine, a young woman who seeks to escape her space colony with a group of friends. However, in their travels, the group finds itself aboard the mysterious Romulus, a Company ship that was carrying dangerous cargo. They discover a horde of xenomorphs aboard the ship, forcing them to fight for their lives.

Years after the last Alien film, Romulus breathes new life into the franchise. The film delivers a similar story to the original movie while also carving out a unique place in the overarching story. Romulus‘ success will likely lead to many more Alien movies down the line, which will hopefully only improve on the winning formula that the 2024 film created.

Ferrari Depicts the Challenges Faced By the Famed Auto Manufacturer

Adam Driver is one of the most compelling actors today, and he shines in director Michael Mann’s sports biopic Ferrari. The movie portrays Italian car manufacturer Enzo Ferrari’s professional struggles during the preparation for the 1957 Mille Miglia, a motorsport competition. The period piece was somewhat controversial at its release but was nonetheless a topic of interest for car enthusiasts.

Complemented by strong portrayals by Penélope Cruz as Ferrari’s estranged wife Laura and Shailene Woodley as his mistress Lina Lardi, Ferrari is an engrossing character-driven drama. Adam Driver’s performance is expectedly memorable, showing the actor’s impressive range and how he can disappear into a role. Poor Things Features a Career-Best Performance From Emma Stone

Poor Things stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, an adult woman who is implanted with the brain of a baby. Brought back to life by the transplant, Bella goes on a journey of self-discovery as she grows out of child-like innocence and explores the world. The film costars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef. Poor Things won four Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone’s arguably career-best performance.

It was Stone’s third collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos, for which she was previously nominated for The Favourite. Wish Is One of Disney’s Recent Animated Features on the Service

Animated by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Wish is one of the most recent blockbuster movies to be added to Disney+’s dense catalog. Directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, the story sees 17-year-old Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose) make a desperate request under the night sky. Once she does, she’s joined by a charming friend dubbed Star to free her home kingdom from the ruler King Magnifico (voiced by Chris Pine).

Wish isn’t the most inventive movie under Disney’s animated umbrella. Still, its endearing characters and talented voice cast make this a relatively respectable watch. It’s undeniably safe in regards to the studio’s animation formula, but that could translate well into nostalgia for kids and families.

Cinderella Was Among the Better Disney Live-Action Remakes

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Walt Disney Pictures adapted the classic folk story and remade Disney’s original animated movie with 2015’s Cinderella. This version stars Lily James as the titular character while Cate Blanchett plays the evil stepmother who’s out to make Cinderella’s new home life grueling. Just like the original film, the evil stepmother is assisted by Cinderella’s two stepsisters.

Disney remakes have garnered a reputation for feeling cynical and losing sight of what made the animated versions so beloved. However, Branagh’s Cinderella feels earnest in its take on the story. It balances tradition with modernity, while its visual style, musical score, and performances further help justify this remake’s existence.

Deadpool & Wolverine Finally Arrives on Disney+

Deadpool & Wolverine is the 34th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but promises to completely reinvent the long-running superhero universe. The film follows Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) as he strives to save his home universe, dragging a Wolverine variant (Hugh Jackman) along for the ride. Together, they embark on a cameo-filled adventure through the Void at the end of time, where they must battle the villainous Cassandra Nova.

The film was funny, yes, and loaded with cultural references and entertaining visual concepts. However, at its heart. There are messages of being an original thinker, daring to be vulnerable, and love and family. Emmet, the regular guy, becomes the unlikely hero. The Lego Film also combines a world within our real world, adding an element of fantasy similar to what Free Guy does, which is an angle many general audiences love.

Oppenheimer Won Best Picture In 2024

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as the titular character, J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is credited as the “father of the atomic bomb.” The film takes place over a few decades and follows Oppenheimer’s development of the bomb and the security hearings he was part of years after the bombs were dropped during World War II. The film features an ensemble cast including Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh. It has been met with universal acclaim, with many citing it as Nolan’s best film.

With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning slated to hit theaters in May, now is the perfect time for fans to revisit Dead Reckoning.

Brothers Is a New and Entertaining Buddy Comedy

Brothers is a new buddy comedy starring Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin as Jady and Moke Munger, a pair of criminal brothers who embark on a road trip to pull off a dangerous heist. Moke, who wants to turn his life around, reluctantly agrees to participate in Jady’s latest score, which involves stealing a case of emeralds from a dangerous family. Along the way, the Munger brothers come to a better understanding of their own relationship and their dynamic with their parents.

Brothers may not be the most artistic film of 2024, but it presents an enjoyable time for fans of buddy action comedies. Brolin and Dinklage have an entertaining dynamic that keeps viewers engaged, even if the film’s jokes don’t always land. The concept of being possessed by a mysterious artifact isn’t, on its own, an original one. However, The Mask excels at what it does. While a sequel will require some modernizing, especially with the franchise’s female roles, new technological developments can only turn the frantic atmosphere up even more. The Indiana Jones Movies Are Now on Paramount+

Although fans may have freaked out when the Indiana Jones movies suddenly disappeared from Disney+, the classic adventure films aren’t without a streaming home. Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are all available to stream on Paramount+, giving audiences a chance to follow Harrison Ford’s eponymous explorer as he travels the globe in search of his next great adventure.

Wolfs Is a Fun Buddy Comedy That Should Have Been Released in Theaters

Wolfs starred George Clooney and Brad Pitt as two fixers hired to cover up the same crime. The two professionals clash over their different methods, annoyed to be dealing with the other in the middle of a job. Things take an additional twist, however, when they discover that the young man they’ve been hired to dispose of isn’t dead.

Wolfs was originally intended for a theatrical release before being relegated to a streaming exclusive on Apple TV+. Nevertheless, the film might have generated a respectable crowd had it been released in theaters. Still, those simply looking for dinosaur-themed action and a dose of nostalgia can enjoy Dominion, at least casually.
