Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone received a final update for January 2025 with major bug fixes, cross-play adjustments, and weapon balance changes that were previously promised for release in February. Specifically, the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone update targets two of the most popular weapons, including Season 2’s newly added PPSh-41 SMG.

On January 30, Warzone developer Raven Software confirmed that the team was monitoring the launch of Season 2 and preparing weapon balance adjustments for the XM4 Assault Rifle and PPSh-41 SMG. The developers stated that the update would be released “early next week,” implying a release on Monday, February 3, at the earliest. Just one day later on January 31, Treyarch and Raven Software announced the update’s early release on all platforms, and patch notes were released to detail the many changes and adjustments made to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 Isn’t Off to a Great Start On Steam

New Steam data suggests Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone’s second season may not be the smash hit that Activision was hoping it would be.

Firstly, the January 31 Warzone update brings nerfs to the XM4 Assault Rifle and buffs to Season 2’s PPSh-41 SMG. The XM4’s maximum and medium damage range have been decreased, and the sprint-to-fire penalty for the 100 Round Mag attachment has been increased to 26%. A sprint-to-fire penalty was also applied to the XM4’s Buffer Stock attachment, along with an ADS speed penalty increase from 23% to 31%. What’s more, the Buffer Stock attachment’s vertical and horizontal recoil control were nerfed as well. On the other hand, the PPSh-41 SMG’s overall damage range has been increased, leg damage multipliers were increased to 1x, and horizontal recoil control has been improved for foregrip attachments. The PPSh-41 buffs should make it a more reliable weapon at longer ranges.

The latest update brought notable fixes and improvements to cross-play functionality in Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 Ranked Play. Going forward, players in a party on the same console platform will matchmake with the party leader’s preferred cross-play settings. In addition, players who have the cross-play feature turned off and create a mixed platform party will have their settings temporarily adjusted to “Cross-Play On” in order to avoid matchmaking conflicts. The developers note that these adjustments may impact matchmaking queue times in both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, and an issue causing cross-play settings to reset after relaunching the game is currently being investigated.

Lastly, Black Ops 6’s multiplayer and Zombies modes also received major fixes and changes, including reduced muzzle flash visibility on all SMGs and a bug fix to the Staff of Ice Wonder Weapon upgrade glitch. Previously, muzzle flash was a point of contention among fans shortly after the launch of Season 2, as many had trouble using the PPSh-41 with its standard iron sights due to low visibility while firing. Moreover, hardcore multiplayer modes now have spawn protection, and several issues involving pinned challenges and the UI were also fixed.
