Modern Campground and Cairn Consulting Group today unveiled their latest collaborative report titled “Blended Travel: Embracing Short-Term Stays, revealing that blended travel—integrating various travel styles and lodging options—has now become standard among outdoor hospitality guests.

According to the February 2025 MC Camper Compass study, seven out of ten travelers (70%) now combine different accommodations, such as campgrounds, RV parks, glamping resorts, hotels, and short-term rentals, within a single trip.

This substantial shift underscores a critical need for campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping destinations to position themselves prominently during travelers’ trip-planning phases.

“This shift towards blended travel represents a fundamental change in traveler behavior, reshaping expectations and creating new opportunities for outdoor hospitality,” said Scott Bahr, president of Cairn Consulting Group.

“Our research indicates that travelers today are not just choosing a single type of accommodation or travel style. Instead, they’re seeking unique and varied experiences that blend seamlessly, often extending their stays due to remote work flexibility. Outdoor hospitality providers need to recognize this trend and actively market themselves as essential parts of these multifaceted journeys.”

The report identifies remote work as a significant driver of this blended travel trend, encouraging guests to transform traditional short weekend getaways into week-long adventures.

With the flexibility to work remotely, travelers are increasingly choosing accommodations that facilitate a balance between work, leisure, and exploration. This trend also boosts mid-week occupancy rates at campgrounds and RV parks, highlighting the necessity for reliable high-speed internet and enhanced amenities to attract these modern guests.

Brian Searl, founder and CEO of Modern Campground, emphasized the opportunities these insights present to industry operators. “The data confirms that travelers aren’t looking for one-dimensional experiences. They are embracing a blend of accommodations and activities that cater to their varied needs,” said Searl.

“This creates a golden opportunity for campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping resorts that are prepared to adapt by offering enhanced amenities, comfort, and connectivity. Those who do will stand out in travelers’ minds as essential components of their blended travel experiences.”

Additionally, the report underscores the growing importance of cross-industry partnerships, such as collaborations between hotels and outdoor lodging providers. These strategic alliances can attract diverse customer segments, leveraging loyalty programs and integrated booking systems to streamline guest experiences.

As blended travel becomes more mainstream, such partnerships will likely play a crucial role in shaping the future of the travel industry.

The full report offers comprehensive insights, detailed market analyses, and actionable strategies designed to help campgrounds, RV parks, and glamping resorts adapt effectively to this evolving travel landscape.

It serves as an essential guide for industry professionals aiming to attract blended travelers, maximize occupancy, and enhance overall guest satisfaction.
