Matt Murdock’s new love could be a trap. The executive producers of Daredevil: Born Again tease a possible twist about their romance.
Matt (Charlie Cox) had a complicated romantic life in Netflix‘s original series. However, his most significant love interests in the show were Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Electra Nachos (Elodie Yung). When Daredevil: Born Again debuted, they introduced Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) as Daredevil’s new love; however, her presence in his life could mean more than what was initially shown.

Daredevil: Born Again underwent a “creative overhaul,” but an insider claims the original pilot is still mostly intact and was moved to episode 2.
Heather is a therapist who just took New York City Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’ Onofrio) and his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zuer) as clients since they have marital issues. Heather’s connection to Fisk and Matt, who are mortal enemies, raises eyebrows. And the Daredevil EPs acknowledged this. “Is it a coincidence…?” EP Sana Amanat said during a pre-season interview, per TV Line. “Is it?” showrunner Dario Scardapane added before teasing that she could have a connection to Fisk. Scardapane said, “Or is it another Fiskian move to get close to people in Matt’s life?” Scardapane didn’t stop there, he added:
Ohhh, you’re in for a treat. I wish I could see the look on your face in about four episodes.
In a previous interview with SFX Magazine, Cox described Matt’s relationship with Heather as “healthy.” According to him, “Matt finds himself in a new and healthy relationship. What they discover about each other is that they have very different views about the role of a superhero, a masked vigilante, and that leads to some poignant conversations.” However, some fans were not happy because they had been rooting for Matt and Karen. “I need him to finally get with Karen,” one commented on X. Meanwhile, several found comparisons between Heather and Karen. “So Karen Page 2.0? lol,” one said. Another added that Heather was “basically Karen without the sketch past.”
Heather’s arrival in the series could mean more than Matt’s love interest based on the EPs’ statements. They seemingly suggest that she could be working for Wilson, aka Kingpin, who is keen on bringing Matt down. Matt and Wilson have opposing ideologies and a personal feud, with the latter repeatedly trying to destroy the former’s life. Wilson hates Matt because he has been the biggest obstacle to his power as a vigilante and lawyer. In Daredevil: Born Again, Wilson makes it clear that he is already aware of Matt and Daredevil being one. So, it’s not unlikely for Kingpin to take action to bring Matt down. He could send a woman to destroy Matt or sabotage his love life. Kingpin is willing to do whatever it takes to take Matt away from his path, because he will never have absolute power in New York while Matt is still around.
One should note that this is just a theory. It’s also possible that Heather is genuine in her love for Matt and has no ties with the Fisks. But one should acknowledge that with Kingpin‘s obsession with control and taking Matt out of his way, he could use Heather against the street vigilante. He has already tried killing, framing and exposing Matt’s identity as Daredevil. He also tried to destroy the people around Matt, but he couldn’t just beat him. So, using another person as a pawn to manipulate Matt could be a new strategy so he could have the upper hand. If this theory turns out to be true, it will not be a complete shock.
