The action-packed Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World made the audience part of a real-life action scene when the roof of the theater where they were watching it collapsed.

The incident happened Tuesday night in downtown Wenatchee, Wash., at Liberty Cinema, the local fire department said in a statement.

“Two people were inside the theater at the time, but fortunately, no injuries were reported,” the department said in the statement. “The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.”

They added, “Talk about an interactive movie experience… just not the kind you want!”

Indeed. Video from the fire department appeared to show at least the first row of seats partially covered by building materials and other rubble, as the film continued to play on a giant, ornate screen.

The film, which stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, the new titular superhero, hasn’t had many showings with such a small audience. It whipped up $100 million in domestic theaters over its four-day debut on Presidents’ Day weekend, according to Comscore, making it the fourth highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film to ever hit theaters on the holiday weekend. And it collected another $92.4 million overseas. It flew to the top of the box office chart in its second weekend, too, adding another $28.2 million to its domestic earnings.

The movie was the first in which Mackie’s character had taken up the mantle from Chris Evans. He costars alongside Harrison Ford, who plays President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the role formerly filled by the late William Hurt, in the chapter about Wilson stopping a nefarious global plan.

While Mackie himself has said that he will bring the character to the next two Avengers movies — 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, in 2027 — longtime Marvel producer Nate Moore confirmed that the plan is for him to be part of the franchise for years to come.

“We always try not to get too ahead of ourselves. We don’t want to promise anything that we are not going to deliver on,” Moore recently told Entertainment Weekly . “But I will say what’s great about this film [Brave New World] is it really cements Sam as the Captain America for the MCU. And, obviously, if the MCU finds itself embroiled in some sort of multiverse business, I’m sure Sam’s going to have a voice as to how we should handle that. So my colleagues in the Avengers rooms are figuring out exactly how that’s going to manifest. But certainly, this is not the last time you’re going to see Sam Wilson as Cap. And certainly, if the world is in danger, I can’t imagine Captain America is not in the mix.”
