On February 12, Tyler Duffy, CEO of CampLife, led a webinar for British Columbia Lodging and Campgrounds Association (BCLCA) members titled “Hey Before Letting Your Gut Decide – Try Making Business Decisions Driven by Data.”

The session focused on leveraging reservation system data to improve campground operations and profitability.

Duffy, who co-founded CampLife with his wife Jackie in 2006, shared how their company has developed reservation and park management software tailored to the camping industry.

CampLife now serves more than 850 parks and camp stores across North America, providing features such as e-signatures, mobile check-in, event management, and an integrated payment processing system.

During the webinar, attendees learned how to analyze reservation data to benchmark their businesses against other campgrounds.

Duffy also presented collective data from CampLife’s 2024 reports, offering key insights on guest behaviors, occupancy trends, and revenue opportunities.

According to CampLife’s data, the platform handled over 1.9 million reservations in 2024, representing 14.8 million nights booked and $587.5 million in total payments.

The company’s website also received 4.8 million visitors.

Duffy discussed guest travel patterns, noting that the average distance traveled to a CampLife-listed campground is 322 kilometers.

He also compared transient and seasonal site rates, with transient sites averaging $75.39 per night compared to $15.41 for seasonal stays.

Other key data points covered in the session included pet accommodations, electric vehicle (EV) adoption among guests, and the percentage of returning visitors.

One of the webinar’s focal points was revenue per available rental (REVPAR) and its role in measuring campground performance
