During the first chapter of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, players will get a tour of BLADE in New Los Angeles from Lin and Elma. At the end of it, the two of them and Secretary Nagi will try to convince you to join the team.

What Happens if You Refuse to Join BLADE in Xenoblade Chronicles X?
There’s No Choice!
During the conversation with the Secretary, if you choose the Refuse option and shrug your shoulders and shake your head, Nagi will simply try to convince you to join by making you feel guilty about Elma saving you from your lifepod from the White Whale.
After the guilt trip, you will be given another chance to make the “right” decision. Refuse once more, and Nagi will have some new dialogue, also trying to convince you again. And if you refuse a third time, the final dialog from him will give you one more chance to choose to accept.
Unfortunately, there is no way to actually refuse BLADE in Xenoblade Chronicles X. From here on out, if you keep choosing the Refuse option, Nagi will keep repeating the same line of dialog.
After a couple of cutscenes, Chapter 2 will start. There are a total of 12 main story chapters in the game and three bonus missions in the Epilogue.
