A moment of silence, rose lovers, for the women who make it to week four on The Bachelor — when the international travel begins — only to be sent home at the first overseas rose ceremony. This week, Grant and his women headed to Madrid, where the Rose vs. Carolina continued and resulted in one self-elimination.

Let’s recap!

It’s the morning after the prom, and the women are feeling as deflated as the pink balloons still strung up in the backyard.

Sarafiena and Litia are morose on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Everyone’s still irked at Carolina — who had a date rose already — for taking up so much of Grant’s time at the prom. “I think you maybe could have waited a little bit towards the end,” Juliana tells her diplomatically. “It set a tone that unfortunately had some s— outcomes for people.”

Before we go any further, rose lovers, I want to say one thing about last week’s drama. As you may recall, Rose told Carolina off-camera that Grant said something along the lines of, “When I was dancing on stage with Carolina during the group date, I was thinking about you.” The Bachelor, when confronted by Carolina about this, adamantly denied it. Since then, eagle-eyed members of Bachelor Nation have been posting “receipts,” like this clip. In it, Grant says to Rose during the group date, “Even today, right? The whole dancing thing on stage and everything — I was thinking about you.”

First of all, every single woman on that group date both sang and danced on stage — that was the whole point of the date! Also, the man said nothing about Carolina. I think Rose — who was probably still annoyed about Carolina making out with Grant on stage — just had that on her mind and heard what she wanted to hear. End of rant.

Oh look, here comes Jesse Palmer with the big news:

Jesse Palmer invites the women to Spain on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Pack your bags, ladies! Your flight to Madrid leaves in an hour! (If that’s true, they’re already late. You gotta be at the airport 2 hours before an international flight!)

Once in Madrid, the women settle into the hotel and then head to an outdoor café for some sangria. Of course, you know this means that Grant’s going to show up out of nowhere and pull one of them away for the first one-on-one date of the week. Bachelor producers love nothing more than “disappointed women” reaction shots. And that’s exactly what happens. Grant invites Dina on the one-on-one, leaving the rest of the women feeling like this:

Rose, Juliana, and Parisa are bummed on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Even though they’re bummed, the women keep their comments positive. “She does look bangin’ today,” notes one. “And her lashes are on point!” Women supporting women — we love to see it.

Dina and Grant have one of those “explore the city” dates: They start off by playing futbol with some local boys and then learn some traditional dances in a town square. All the while, Dina is filling us in, via voice over, on her history of emotional reserve. “I grew up thinking that you don’t show your emotions,” she explains. “I’m a little bit of an ice queen… but I can melt for the people that deserve it.” Oh boy, Grant — that sounds like a challenge to me.

The couple’s next stop is Peque Story, a cute little store whose façade is decorated with wishes written by thousands of visitors. Dina and Grant write their own and read them to each other.

Grant and Dina share their wishes on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

You’ll never guess what they each wish for: Marriage and family! I mean, of course that’s what they’re both going to wish for, but Dina is shocked — shocked! — that they each wrote the same thing without even discussing it. The two end their day with a romantic ride in a rowboat, which Grant has no clue how to operate. Bless him, he’s a city boy.

As they float with the ducks, Dina and Grant talk about their personal attachment styles — she’s a giver, and he’s always done things on his own. He’s ready to give out that love, though, and maybe he’ll give it to Dina.

ABC

Time for the Dive Deep Dinner™! And Dina does not mince words when she talks about her personality. “I’m very regimented, very in control,” she explains, adding that she can be “drill sergeant-y.” But she says getting to know Grant has been “so chill,” and she appreciates that he can bring out her softer side. The Bachelor admits she reminds him of his mom — “not in a weird way,” he clarifies, but because she’s got the same kind of strength. Grant, who felt the need to be strong for his mother as a child, can relate to Dina’s experience of feeling the need to be self-sufficient because she was one of 11 kids.

When Dina asks Grant why his 7-year relationship ended, he says the “downfall” came from his selfishness: “I was trying to pursue my career, and I didn’t really cater to the things that she was asking for the way that I should have.” Props for honesty, sir! There’s be plenty of Opening Up™ on both sides tonight, and you know what that means, rose lovers:

ABC

Congrats, ma’am. Back at the hotel, the women are drinking wine and listening to Carolina complain about how she hasn’t had enough time with Grant. “It’s definitely weird to watch other people’s intimate moments,” she continues, “ooh — I don’t love that.”

Oh girl, read the room! No one wanted to watch your “intimate moment” with Grant on stage when you straddled him and started eating his face in front of everyone. Anyhow, Carolina is going to have a lot more to complain about this week, because she just found out that she’s on the group date — along with Alexe, Litia, Natalie, Rose, Parisa, Zoe, and Juliana. (Congrats on the one-on-one, Sarafiena!) Carolina handles the news the best way she knows how: Through defensive sarcasm.

Carolina uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Oh, they will. Don’t you worry, toots.

The day of the group date arrives, and Parisa is NOT having a good morning. She goes on to deliver what may be one of the best comedic monologues in Bachelor history. “I woke up and I had a pimple,” she tells us. “I burned my chest earlier on my hair curler. It’s so ugly — it popped! — so I’m trying to cover it with my necklace. My spray tan is, like, chipping. Chipping! I didn’t know, like, a spray tan could chip!”

Parisa needs a break on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Even in the face of this adversity, Parisa is determined to have a good time on the group date. Come on, reality TV gods — this woman needs a win!

Unfortunately, when the ladies meet Grant in the town of Chinchón, he informs them that they’ll be exploring the area via donkey — and Parisa’s ride really needs some Pepto Bismol.

Parisa rides a gassy donkey on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

“Parisa! Yours has way bad gas!” Litia informs her. Alexe, on the other hand, is having a great time. “If you sit the right way…” she says with a giggle. Get it, girl!

After the donkey ride, it’s time for the main event: Bullfighting with a matadora named Caren Calderón.

Caren Calderón teaches the women bullfighting on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

By now, we know that this lesson — which involves Grant charging at the women while pushing a bull head attached to a wheelbarrow type thing — is going to lead to an embarrassing competition. The women get all dolled up in their “Spirit Halloween” matadora costumes (as Carolina calls them), and then the real humiliation begins.

Alexe holds on for dear life on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Yep, today the women will be competing in a “batalla del toro” — which is a fancy way of saying they have to hold on to a mechanical bull for as long as possible. And, they have to do it in front of irritated locals who somehow got coerced into sitting in the stands. Don’t these folks look thrilled?

Two very bored Spaniards on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Most of the women are tossed off the bull after a few seconds, but Alexe leaves them all in the dust with her unique technique of leaning forward and wrapping her arms around the bull’s horns. She stays on for 47 seconds, and it seems like she’s a shoo-in to win. But then when it’s Zoe’s turn, she copies Alexe’s technique and somehow earns the trophy, even though it’s unclear if she stayed on the bull longer. As winner, she gets to share some champagne and a sunset smooch with Grant.

That night at the cocktail party, Grant surprises Parisa with her very own Spanish rock. (As you may recall, rose lovers, Parisa is a rock/gem collector, and she finds the Bachelor’s gesture “very romantic.”) Rose, meanwhile, uses her time to level-set with Grant after last week’s awkwardness over Carolina. Holding Rose’s hand, Grant assures her that there’s “potential” and “room for growth” with their relationship, and they end the chat with a smooch.

ABC

Zoe uses her time with the Bachelor to explain that her reserved nature comes from growing up as a Black girl in the predominantly white South. “My entire life, I always just felt like the Black sheep,” she says, breaking down. “No men were wanting to date me… I just never felt worthy of, like, friendship, let alone a boyfriend.” Grant wipes her tears and assures her that he wants to know “this side” of her, because he can relate. “As a Black man, I can understand what she’s been through,” he says.

Back in the holding pen, Carolina poses a question that she probably should have considered before signing up for this show.

Carolina asks a pertinent question on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Oh boy, Carolina — now you’ve done it! You’ve dared to question the foundational rules of this “process”! And now you will be forever tarred as an ungrateful Negative Nancy! How DARE you make the totally factual statement that you “barely know” Grant when Juliana hasn’t even had a one-on-one date? Indeed, Juliana is so upset by Carolina’s audacity that she pulls her outside to scold her.

“Tonight, you expressed your unsureness about this whole process to this day,” says Juliana. “If I felt that unsure about who he was… I would be packing my bags and leaving.” Carolina’s response is epically unbothered. “Okay,” she replies. And then, after a long pause, “What’s your question?”

LOLOL. When Juliana says her comments are rubbing the women the wrong way, Carolina brushes her off: “I don’t think I’ve ever asked for your opinion.” Welp, okay then!

I don’t know, rose lovers — Carolina can be annoying, but I don’t agree with Juliana’s characterization that she’s “talking sh– about Grant.” All Carolina did was say out loud that she barely knows Grant at this point in the “journey,” which is a fact.

When Carolina and Juliana get back to the holding pen, the other women can sense the tension between them. Carolina opens the floor for anyone else who might have complaints about her, and… well, it was a mistake. Rose points out that she can be negative, Parisa questions whether Carolina has real feelings for Grant, and Zoe reminds her that not everyone has had a one-on-one date.

Carolina starts to cry, saying she feels “pathetic” for liking Grant so much after such a short period of time. Now she’s speaking a language the other women can understand. Parisa gently suggests that everyone handles emotional situations in different ways, but just when it seems like things are going to be smoothed over, Grant arrives to hand out the date rose.

Unfortunately, Carolina is still audibly crying, so Grant stops the mini-rose ceremony to pull her aside and see if she’s okay. Naturally, the women do NOT love this.

Litia is over it on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Oh, come on. The man noticed she was crying and did the gentlemanly thing by checking on her. Was Carolina sniffling loudly on purpose so Grant couldn’t ignore her tears? Maybe. But don’t hate the player, ladies — hate the game.

The Bachelor isn’t super psyched to hear that there’s tension between Juliana and Carolina. In fact, he’s so annoyed, this happens:

Grant hoards the date rose on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Yep, no date rose tonight, ladies! Juliana feels bad and apologizes for her role in the drama, but everyone chooses to reserve their anger for Carolina.

The next day, Grant has his second one-on-one date of the week.

Sarafiena and Grant hit the road on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

The Bachelor says Sarafiena has been “flying under the radar,” so he’s hoping he’ll be able to get to know her better over the course of the day. Grant drives her to an abandoned-looking railroad bridge. The sky is grey, and the rain is pouring, and before Grant and Sarafiena embark on their date activity — yep, bungee jumping! — they have to sign a waiver confirming that their surviving relatives won’t sue if they die in this endeavor.

Grant and Sarafiena sign waivers on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

It’s all so romantic! And terrifying! Grant, for one, is freaking out. “I’m over here a little bit scared,” he frets, “but [Sarafiena] hasn’t even broken a sweat.” Even though their star is having a mild panic attack, producers still make him recite the required dialogue: “Jumping off a bridge is like falling in love… I feel like letting go is the hardest part.” But Grant and Sarafiena do let go, and they even share an upside-down smooch.

At dinner, Grant tells Sarafiena that when he kisses her, he senses she’s “hesitant” to “go all the way in,” and he assumes it’s because she’s afraid of being hurt. Actually, sir, that’s not it.

Sarafiena keeps it real on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

That’s freaking hilarious. Grant finds it funny, too. “You seem like you’ve been raised very well,” he says. “Your mom did a really good job.” Indeed, Sarafiena does seem like a delightful young lady. I’m still not convinced that she and Grant have a lot of chemistry, but they are able to bond over being raised by strong women who dealt with a lot of hardships. The Bachelor tells Sarafiena that he can tell she’s genuine and ready to find love. Go on, sir, give her that date rose!

ABC

“I like you,” Grant tells her as they stroll away, hand-in-hand. They share a passionate smooch, and then Sarafiena turns to the camera with an apologetic smile: “Sorry, mom.” LOVE her.

Wow, is it time for the final cocktail party of the week already? Yep, and all the women are really hoping that they can have a drama-free evening. Isn’t that adorable? Instead, Grant arrives and immediately asks to speak with Juliana because his mind has been “racing” about what happened at the group date. When they sit down, Grant asks Juliana to share her side of the conflict with Carolina, and she just starts going in on how “ungrateful” and “unhappy” Carolina was after her one-on-one. “[She was] just questioning this entire journey,” Juliana continues. As for the group date, Juliana says Carolina “had nothing positive to say about the date.”

Okay, take it down a notch, ma’am. Carolina was just expressing how bonkers it is to consider getting engaged to a man you’ve known for literal weeks. I know that’s a cardinal sin in the Bachelor-verse, but I’m okay giving Carolina props for not drinking the Kool-Aid.

Grant, of course, must go off what the women are telling him, so naturally, he’s concerned to hear that Carolina has been so “negative.” He thanks Juliana for her candor, and they end their conversation with a kiss.

ABC

From there, the Bachelor heads straight to Carolina. He’s upset that she was (allegedly) trash-talking their one-on-one date, and he tells her as much. “I wanted our date to be a positive experience,” he says. “And when you question it, it hurts me.” Now it’s Carolina’s turn to be annoyed. “I think it’s more natural for someone to have doubts when they’re first meeting someone, than for someone to be like, ‘I’m ready to marry this man tomorrow!’” she shoots back. “If I have concerns, it’s because I’m taking it seriously.”

Grant’s all, Fair enough, but you should be talking to me about this, not the other women. (Don’t love that, to be honest. She can talk to the women about whatever she damn well wants!) Carolina and the Bachelor end on a somber note, and then she heads back to the holding pen. Seeing that Carolina’s upset, Dina consoles her, saying she understands that it must be hard to go from having a great one-on-one date early on to watching other women spend that type of time with Grant. “I hear you, and I see you,” says Dina, taking Carolina’s hand.

ABC

Now they’re both crying and gushing over how much they love each other. It’s kind of sweet, but on the other hand, it’s also two women who have had one-on-one dates crying about how “hard” everything is in front of several women who’ve spent a fraction of the time with Grant. It’s all too much for Rose to handle. “Your actions really set me back,” she tells Carolina. “And it really f—ed me over… I was the one whose character he was questioning.” Rose claims that what she said to Carolina was in confidence, and by sharing it with Grant, Carolina “backstabbed” her.

Rose blasts Carolina on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Dramatic, much? Girl, you shared something with Carolina that you should have known would be very upsetting to her — “Grant said he was thinking about me when he was dancing with you” — and now you’re the victim? Even if Grant had said that (I still believe he didn’t), it wasn’t kind of Rose to run and tell Carolina. Anyhow, Rose continues to get more and more upset and nearly starts hyperventilating. Finally, she pulls herself together and sits down with Grant. “This has been unbelievably difficult,” says Rose. “So, it really is in my best interest to go home.” Grant’s response is pretty much, “Um, okay! Safe flight!” (I’m paraphrasing.) Cut to:

ABC

Tink! Tink! Tink! Here comes Jesse Palmer with his Butter Knife of Bad News™. Sorry, ladies — the cocktail party is over. As they assemble for the rose ceremony, all the women are seething with rage at Carolina and hoping she gets sent home.

The women assemble for the rose ceremony on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Wow, producers actually let the women put on coats. It must have been really cold. Rose ceremony roll call!

Litia, Juliana, Alexe, Zoe, and Carolina join Dina and Sarafiena in the Circle of Safety™. Fare thee well, Natalie and Parisa.

Parisa second-guesses herself on ‘The Bachelor’.

ABC

Of course not! And hey, I’m sure you’ll have a fun, rock-themed intro on Paradise. Now go home and get some loving from your sweet kitty, Sonny. (And no, you don’t sound that insane.)

What an eventful week, rose lovers! Were you surprised Rose sent herself home? Does Carolina deserve all the hate she’s getting? And is anyone else suddenly rooting for Sarafiena? Post your thoughts below!

The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
