Blake Lively received some support from Hollywood following the filing of her CRD Complaint on Dec. 20, and subsequent release online the following day. However, as It Ends With Us‘ Justin Baldoni brought receipts, it looks like the overall opinion is changing.

Chelsea Handler didn’t wait long to bring the feud up and did so in the opening monologue for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards. The comedian returned for the third time to host the event, and she poked fun at multiple celebrities. However, she couldn’t help but address the ongoing legal battle between the It Ends With Us co-stars, leading to a positive reaction from the audience, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Was Justin Baldoni opening up about the It Ends With Us drama long before Blake Lively’s first complaint?

At the beginning of her opening speech, Handler said, “I want to acknowledge that we’ve been through a lot lately, not just here in Los Angeles, but our entire country, waking up every day not knowing what news we are going to hear that will disappoint or horrify us,” Handler said.

“So, it is important in times like these to have a distraction, and that’s why I want to personally extend my gratitude to Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively,” the host shared to the delight of the audience, who started laughing. “Thank you for providing us with that distraction. I’m grateful. I think we’re all grateful.”

She added, “And I think we’re good! I think everybody in this room, no matter whose side you’re on, we can all agree to accept that there’s probably not going to be a sequel. It ends with us, guys.” Following the success of the 2019 novel, Colleen Hoover wrote a follow-up novel, It Starts With Us, which she released in 2022. Justin Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios owns the rights to both novels.

The ongoing It Ends With Us legal drama allegedly put Taylor Swift in an uncomfortable spot.

Chelsea Handler’s attitude to the It Ends With Us drama couldn’t have been more different than Nikki Glaser’s. The latter took the stage for the first time as a Golden Globes host earlier this year, but didn’t address the situation. Ahead of the ceremony, she shared, “I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” the comedian shared, highlighting whose side she’s on. “I also don’t want to give his name any — I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.“

Colin Jost Seemingly Poked Fun at the Ongoing Legal Battle on Pop Culture Jeopardy

Chelsea Handler isn’t the only person in Hollywood to use Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s ongoing legal feud as a pop culture reference. Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live fame has also seemingly hinted at the duo in an episode of Pop Culture Jeopardy, which he hosts. During one episode, the game show’s host joked about an intimacy coordinator being present. For the category “It’s Getting Anatomical,” Jost joked “Don’t worry, we will have an intimacy coordinator present for that category.” For the “Sax Scene” category, the host added, “The intimacy coordinator will leave for that category.“

The joke from the Saturday Night Live alum alone is funny. It references one of Lively’s allegations that the It Ends With Us set did not have an intimacy coordinator present, an allegation Baldoni tried to refute with several notes from a meeting with the intimacy coordinator, and messages that the actress was not in a hurry to meet the person.

What’s even more interesting is that Jost is married to Scarlett Johansson in real life. Going back down memory lane, Scarlett Johansson was married to Ryan Reynolds until he met Lively on the set of Green Lantern. Although the two denied any cheating allegations, Johansson later reminisced it was “challenging” to date another actor in a 2016 interview with Cosmopolitan. Scarlett Johansson is also set to release her directorial debut film Eleanor the Great, for which she collaborated with Wayfarer Studios, among other producing studios, with Justin Baldoni, Steve Sarowitz, Jamey Heath, and Andrew Calof serving as executive producers.
