Clemson Park, a longtime community space established in the late 1970s, is undergoing a significant renovation aimed at enhancing its facilities and overall appeal.
According to an article by Independent Mail, the project includes the addition of new sidewalks, parking areas, shade structures, stormwater management systems, a splash pad, and a skate park.
Despite the ongoing construction, key areas such as the Green Crescent Trail, Pump Track, and Community Gardens will remain open to the public.
According to the City of Clemson, the renovation will be carried out in multiple phases, with Phase 1 already awarded.
This phase includes an underground stormwater system and the skate park, contracted for $944,357.
City Engineer Nathan Hinkle confirmed that the full renovation, covering Phase 1 and Phase 2, is expected to be completed within a year.
“This plan is based on the original conceptual design presented to the City Council several years ago,” Hinkle said.
“City staff from various departments, such as Parks & Recreation, Urban & Park Land Management, Stormwater, Utilities, Administration, and Engineering, collaborated to refine the plans.” He also noted that the City Council requested the addition of a skate park as a key feature following the pump track installation.
During the renovation, Clemson Park will continue to welcome visitors daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The upgrades aim to modernize and expand its offerings while maintaining its role as a key recreational hub in the city.
Clemson Park has long served the community with its picnic areas, pump track, climbing structures, sports fields, and community garden plots available for rent.
Originally constructed with assistance from a Land & Water Conservation Grant, the park has undergone several improvements over the years, including a fast track in 2021 and a pump track and level spreader in 2022.
The community garden, a vital part of Clemson Park’s history, was first introduced in 1997 and has been relocated multiple times due to flooding and park expansions. It is now situated on a leased plot from the United Methodist Church beside the park.
As renovations move forward, Clemson Park remains a vital recreational space, blending history with modern improvements to better serve visitors and the surrounding community.
These upgrades are expected to further solidify its status as a key destination for outdoor activities in Clemson.
