The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia Limited (CMCA) has designated Wilcannia as an RV Friendly Town, a recognition that could boost tourism and economic activity in the region.

The announcement, made by the Central Darling Shire Council, positions the town as a welcoming destination for recreational vehicle travelers.

The CMCA, which has grown since 1986 into the largest RV club in the southern hemisphere, has over 68,000 members and more than 34,000 vehicles in its network.

With Wilcannia now part of its RV Friendly Town program, the club will promote the town to its members, potentially increasing visitor numbers, according to a report by Inside Local Government.

One of the key benefits of this designation is enhanced visibility for Wilcannia’s Victory Caravan Park.

The park will be featured in The Wanderer, CMCA’s monthly magazine, and included in its e-newsletter, which reaches over 28,000 subscribers. This exposure could drive more business to the park and the surrounding community.

As part of the program, Wilcannia will provide designated street parking on Reid Street, near the Post Office and Baker Park, suitable for various RV types.

Travelers will also have access to short- and long-term overnight parking at Victory Caravan Park, with a maximum stay of 96 hours for self-contained vehicles. Permit fees for unpowered sites are set at $20 per night.

Additionally, a free public dump point and potable water supply are available outside Wilcannia Oval on Myers Street.

For business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector, Wilcannia’s new designation highlights the benefits of aligning with established RV networks.

The program can serve as a model for other regional towns seeking to attract RV travelers, showcasing how targeted marketing through industry partnerships can lead to increased visitation and local economic growth.
