Let’s hope no one was serving water when the cast of Coyote Ugly reunited Wednesday in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary.
Stars Tyra Banks (Zoe), Maria Bello (Lil), Melanie Lynskey (Gloria), and Izabella Miko (Cammie), along with director David McNally, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and Grammy winner Diane Warren, who penned the movie’s theme song, gathered for a screening and conversation about it at the American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre in Los Angeles. A few cast members — Piper Perabo (protagonist Violet), Bridget Moynahan (Rachel), and Adam Garcia (Mr. O’Donnell) — were there via internet.
Along with a screening of the 2000 film, which is about Perabo’s songwriter trying to make her way in New York City and stumbling into a job at Coyote Ugly, a bar where beautiful women serve the drinks in between dances on the bar, there was a discussion moderated by Banks.
“Everybody thinks I was dancing on the bar ,” Lynskey, who played one of Violet’s friends, said, according to PEOPLE, “and I’m so grateful I wasn’t.” She thought doing those choreographed routines looked like a “nightmare.”

The former America’s Next Top Model star wrote on social media that reunion was “magical, wild, hilarious, and deeply touching — just like the movie itself.” In a video, she said the night’s special guests played a drinking game called “Can’t Fight the Moonshine,” a play on “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” the title of Warren’s catchy song that LeAnn Rimes sang on the movie’s soundtrack.
Banks orchestrated the event, which benefitted victims of the L.A. wildfires via Global Empowerment Mission. The supermodel said the event was “so special” in an Instagram Story when she got home.
“It was fun!” she added. “We had a great time, so I’m about to get this dress off and take off this hair that was inspired by the movie.”
It was Banks who shared, in 2020, that there were plans for a sequel to the movie, which opened Aug. 4, 2000, and earned $114 million in theaters, per Box Office Mojo.

“I literally was supposed to be on a conference call today about bringing Coyote Ugly back,” she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in October 2020. “We were supposed to be on a call today, and I’m talking to you and I can’t talk to them…. Yes, we are talking about trying to do Coyote Ugly 2 or a series.”
She said then that her dream cast for a new take on the film would include Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, and Meryl Streep.
