For players who love the thrill of fishing and the comfort of their couch in equal measure, these games are practically tailor-made for them.

Just a few weeks following its third anniversary, Isle of Jura became free to claim on Steam. While the game has seen over two dozen discounts since its debut, dropping as low as $0.49, the ongoing promotion marks the first occasion on which it’s being given away. Isle of Jura is regularly priced at $4.99, making it one of the more affordable cozy games on Steam.

The ongoing promotion launched on March 2 and is planned to run for exactly one week, ending at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 6pm CET on March 9. Apart from Windows PCs, Isle of Jura is also playable on macOS and the Linux-based SteamOS. Free games on Valve’s digital store are typically prevented from dropping Steam Trading Cards, but that’s a non-issue here since Isle of Jura doesn’t support them anyway.

What Is Isle of Jura?

Isle of Jura puts players in the shoes of Alex, a high school student who embarks on a fishing trip with the goal of finishing her surprisingly demanding biology report. To that end, she travels to a remote island called Jura, seeking a variety of fish species to study. Isle of Jura‘s setting was inspired by the real-world island of the same name, which is located off the Scottish west coast, in the Inner Hebrides, near Islay.

Apart from minimalist graphics and a relaxing soundtrack, this Scotland-set game also offers over 50 fish species to catch. The mechanics of doing so have some depth to them, with the protagonist being able to master three types of fishing techniques over the course of the game. Aside from finding new fishing spots, exploration is also rewarded with a variety of artifacts that are hidden throughout the island. Jura also has some NPC inhabitants that Alex can chat up. A few Steam user reviews compared Isle of Jura to a single-player version of Iamdeveloper’s Webfishing, describing it as a cozy game that’s great for relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere.
