Craig D. Jones joined NASA Langley Research Center in 1988 when he was hired into the Engineering Technician Apprentice Program. Craig is a senior engineer with experience in fabrication, mechanical design, systems engineering, project management and branch management.  He has led multi-organizational, multi-disciplinary teams in developing space flight, aircraft, and ground-based systems for projects such as the UH-1 F-18 Drop Model, B757 Lidar, Geosynchronous Imaging Fourier Transform Spectrometer (GIFTS), and Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO).  He served as the Flight Systems Deputy on Orion’s Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) Thermal Protection System (TPS) Advanced Development Project (ADP), Spacecraft Manager for the Climate Absolute Radiance and Refractivity Observatory (CLARREO) Project, Project Manager for ESSPO’s Common Instrument Interface (CII) Project and Deputy Project Manager and Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for the Ball Aerospace Instrument contract for the Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) Project and served as Branch Head of the Mechanical Systems Branch in the Engineering Directorate.  Most recently, he has served as the Associate Director for Space Technology Exploration in the Engineering Directorate.  

He earned a B.S. degree from Old Dominion University in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University.  Craig is the recipient of an Exceptional Service Medal for “Exceptional service in support of LaRC missions in the areas of Aeronautics, Exploration, and Earth Science Programs” and an STS-124 Space Flight Awareness award.
