A proposal to construct a new central facilities building at Glendale Holiday Park in Port Carlisle is under review by Cumberland Council.
The application, submitted on February 17, seeks approval for the demolition of existing sales, reception, and leisure buildings to make way for an upgraded facility featuring a reception area, pools, a gym, offices, a sales space, a sewage treatment facility, and visitor parking.
According to a report by News & Star, the proposed structure would cover 910 square meters, with a maximum height of six meters.
Planning documents indicate that visitor parking will be available immediately in front of the building, offering a total of 22 spaces, including five with electric vehicle charging points or future-ready cabling and three designated for disabled parking.
“The stretch of road immediately in front of the building will also provide visitor parking with a small amount of staff and VIP parking,” the report states.
The new building is designed to improve the arrival experience for guests by providing clear wayfinding and accessibility.
“Pathways have been provided for convenient access to these spaces from the north of the site, effectively linking the wider holiday park to the new facilities,” the report states, adding that flat terrain eliminates the need for ramps or steps.
The facility will be positioned at the park’s eastern corner to create a welcoming entry point.
Glendale Holiday Park is an established caravan park overlooking the Solway Firth, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty spanning the England-Scotland border.
The park currently holds planning permission for 447 static caravans and 37 touring caravan pitches across its 17-hectare site.
For industry professionals, the planned upgrade signals a broader trend of investing in modernized, amenity-rich facilities to enhance visitor experiences and operational efficiency.
With the inclusion of EV charging infrastructure and an integrated layout, the project reflects evolving consumer expectations and sustainability priorities within the outdoor hospitality sector. The application remains under review by Cumberland Council.
