NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of central Daikundi province have begun constructing a 20-kilometer road on self-help basis.

The residents said the road was being constructed from Bini area of Miramur district to Kata Sang area of Shahristan district, linking the two densely populated districts.

Hassan Sarwari, a project coordinator, explained construction of this road was carried out through public mobilization and collecting donations from donors.

The distance between the two districts will become about three hours shorter and thousands of residents will benefit from this road, Sarwari added.

According to Sarwari, people, with unity, cohesion, and coordination, has decided to build this road to facilitate traffic and shorten distances.

Ishaq Ali, another coordinator, said: “We started the road at our own expense, and this road has great benefits and connects two districts”.

This road passes through Aros, Ochdara, Nawmazar, Mirghulam, Eskaan areas, the greater Miramur area, as well as areas of Chaprasak and the rest of Shahristan district.

Akhtar Mohammad, a resident of Miramur, explained they started this road with shovels and picks and are trying to complete it with people’s help and efforts.

“We travel long distance to reach Shahristan district. We decided to construct this road at our own expense”.

He added the road’s completion would make it easier for residents to access health centers.

The overall cost of this project has not yet been determined.

Officials praised people’s action and emphasized the local administration’s support for such initiatives.

Every step taken towards the development and progress of the community is supported by the local administration and they will cooperate to the best of its ability, governor spokesman Ghazanfar Kazimi explained.

The residents have always accomplished valuable things with their unity and integrity.

Recently, dozens of kilometers of roads and many development projects have been completed in Daikundi by local residents at their own expense.
