Demna, the artistic director of Balenciaga, was awarded the recognition of Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France’s Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, on Monday.
The award is given to individuals who have distinguished themselves within artistic or creative fields that have influenced both France and the world.
The Georgia-born designer joined the Kering-owned label in 2015 and quickly established himself as one of fashion’s most creative forces. In 2021, he revived Balenciaga’s couture line.
At a ceremony to accept the honour, the designer was joined by supporters including Kering chief executive François-Henri Pinault and Balenciaga house ambassador Isabelle Huppert.
