An Angus glamping site that includes a repurposed boat as one of its accommodations has received official approval to operate.
The site, located at Nether Finlarg Farm between Forfar and Dundee, offers a distinctive rural escape featuring a boat, tent, pod, and cabin. The site also provides a shower and restroom block for guests.
Henry Rymer, the applicant, submitted a retrospective application for the development, highlighting the setting as offering a “unique and picturesque glamping experience.”
According to a report by The Courier, planning officials approved the project under delegated powers, stating it aligns with the area’s agricultural character while adding value as a farm diversification effort.
Officials noted, “The proposed units and associated works would sit relatively comfortably within the landscape. Given the small scale of the proposal, it is considered that the site can accommodate the development without any significant adverse impacts on the character of the local landscape.”
The Farmer’s Cabin, one of the accommodations, has been restored from its origins as a working farmer’s shelter.
The studio-style unit includes a modern kitchen, double bed, and sofa, with large windows offering views of the surrounding countryside.
Guests also have access to a communal bathroom area located nearby. The farm, recognized for its conservation efforts, has planted extensive hedges and woodlands, creating a haven for wildlife.
Nether Finlarg offers guests opportunities to explore the farm’s trails and enjoy panoramic views from Finlarg Hill, which stands over 800 feet above sea level.
The site’s proximity to Dundee, six miles away, provides access to urban amenities, including the Victoria and Albert Museum.
In addition to its glamping ventures, the farm supports local employment through the development of industrial units and has plans for an equestrian center to teach children horseback riding.
The combination of rural charm and eco-friendly development underscores the farm’s commitment to sustainable tourism and community engagement.
