Elden Ring’s brutal the Lands Between map has been recreated in the style of Super Mario World, replacing the action RPG’s grueling locations with cute icons from Nintendo’s flagship IP. Elden Ring has become one of the most popular games of this ilk, and the community constantly strives to show its appreciation for its craft through a variety of fan art submissions, from hypothetical comic book covers to character redesigns.
Elden Ring was released back in 2022 and went on to win Game of the Year, followed by the equally successful debut of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in June 2024. The DLC took players from the Lands Between to the Land of Shadow, teeing up the narrative around Messmer the Impaler. With Shadow of the Erdtree being a Summer 2024 affair, fans are now looking ahead to the next Soulslike challenge. Players can now sign up for Elden Ring Nightreign’s closed beta test, which is due to start on February 14, 2025.

A gamer makes an avatar in Elden Ring that does an incredible job of depicting one of the main characters from NieR: Automata.
Posted on Instagram by sometime_tomorrow_studio, a reimaging of the Lands Between was posted in the artist’s feed. Surrounded by water, the map featured the Souslike’s grasslands and islands with numbered locations, including Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. The artist confirmed they used the original spites from Zanzio and The Spriters Resource while giving themself carpal tunnel syndrome to complete the piece. Elden Ring’s blueprint is rich in lore, joining some of the best open-world games with subtle storytelling and world-building, and converting the dark fantasy aesthetic of the Lands Between into Super Mario pixels is something the community didn’t have on their bingo card.
Pixel Artist Turns Elden Ring Map Into Super Mario World
The artist later recreated the Land of Shadow from Shadow of the Erdtree in the same style, and the Soulslike community wasted no time in praising the incredible mashup with some fans even asking for prints. Instead of the pixel makeup of Super Mario World, another Elden Ring fan previously brought the Lands Between into Super Mario cartography, which certainly doesn’t capture the action RPG’s punishing nature.
Aside from the fan art, Super Mario characters have also made their way into FromSoft’s world through a nightmarish mod. Creator Garden of Eyes’ Elden Ring mod supplied the Super Mario makeover no one asked for, turning Godrick the Grafted into the bug-eyed titular plumber with Yoshi as his pet dragon. The mod also brought other pop culture characters into the Lands Between, including Homer Simpson, Moana, and Ugandan Knuckles.
