Faizon Love has been accused of assault in a new lawsuit.
The Elf actor is being sued by San Diego hotel employee Elizabeth Renderos, who alleges that Love threw a credit card reader at her head.
In her complaint, which was filed Tuesday and has been obtained by Entertainment Weekly, Renderos claims that while she was working the front desk at the Sheraton Hotel on Aug. 9, 2024, Love became “agitated and aggressive” upon hearing that the hotel had no vacancy. The complaint alleges that the actor “forcefully ripped the credit card reader off the counter and hurled it at” Renderos, “striking her on the right side of her head.”
Representatives for Love and Renderos did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
Renderos claims that Love’s “despicable, reckless, oppressive, and malicious behavior” broke her prescription glasses, and that she “suffered pain, injury, and emotional distress, including a concussion and a visible bump behind her right ear.”

The complaint accuses Love of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, property damage, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Renderos seeks general, specific, compensatory, and punitive damages, plus legal fees.
The suit also claims that police responded to the scene at the time of the incident, and ultimately cited Love for battery. The San Diego Police Department did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
Renderos says that she told Love to contact the Hotel Tonight app, which he supposedly used to coordinate his reservation that ultimately proved unsuccessful. On Aug. 10, 2024 — the day after the alleged incident — Love posted on Instagram, writing, “Never use this app Hotel tonight !!! They’re Frauds.”

San Diego County Sheriff’s Office records also indicate that there is an outstanding warrant for Love’s arrest that was issued on Oct. 2, 2024, on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon. EW has reached out to the SDCSO for comment.
Love was previously accused of assault in a 2017 incident involving a 24-year-old valet at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Columbus, Ohio. He pleaded no contest and was given a suspended sentence of 180 days and a $500 fine, per local CBS affiliate WBNS.
Love began his career in the film Bebe’s Kids in 1992, and worked with Robert Townsend on both The Meteor Man and The Parent ‘Hood. He played drug supplier Big Worm in the original Friday, and also appeared in films like Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood and Just My Luck.
Faizon is perhaps best known for playing the manager of fictional department store Gimbels in 2003’s Elf. In the film, Faizon’s character maintains an antagonistic relationship with Will Ferrell’s Buddy the Elf but begrudgingly respects his work in the store. Faizon also collaborated with Elf filmmaker Jon Favreau in the films Made and Couple’s Retreat.
