Playing a supportive role in a competitive game can often feel like a chore. Teammates often blame the player for every mistake and they do not appreciate it enough when everything goes right and they win. This is especially true of Marvel Rivals, as the team’s success often hinges on how well the strategist plays and how the duelists take advantage of the healing they are given from their allies. However, not every strategist is equal in power, and choosing the right character for a specific map and tea composition is often necessary to win a lengthy match.

Some supportive characters in Marvel Rivals do more than just heal their allies. A few characters (e.g. Rocket Raccoon and Adam Warlock) revive their allies when they are defeated and other strategists (e.g. Luna Snow and Mantis) provide powerful crowd control effects that keep their teammates safe from enemy damage. Overall, playing a strategist in Marvel Rivals is a difficult balancing act, as players need to focus on defending themselves and their allies, but the task is incredibly rewarding for those who master the role.

Jeff the Land Shark is a One-Trick Pony

Team-Ups: Groot and Luna Snow

Strategist characters need to be versatile to have success in battle. This usually means that these characters have multiple ways of protecting their team, and they can also easily keep themselves safe. However, one strategist in Marvel Rivals struggles to defend themselves in battle and only has one optimal way of keeping the enemy away from their team.

No, this is not Overwatch 2.

Jeff the Land Shark’s kit is, unfortunately, completely centralized around his ultimate. While his ultimate ability can be pesky when a match reaches overtime or if there are multiple pitfalls on a map, this ability is the only really powerful threat in his kit. After nerfs, it has become even easier to avoid. Overall, Jeff the Land Shark is the weakest strategist in the game, and his bark is far deadlier than his bite.

Adam Warlock’s Playstyle is Immensely Predictable

Sometimes, a character’s playstyle becomes too predictable. Characters like The Punisher and Moon Knight can work around this drawback because their damage output can overcome these drawbacks. However, one strategist in Marvel Rivals has this issue, and it makes him very easy for the enemy to target, and he is quite simple to keep away from the team.

Adam Warlock has amazing abilities at first glance, and he is one of the few characters in the game that can revive allies. However, this revive is predictable, as the revived ally has to fly to a new respawn point, and enemies can easily follow them. Furthermore, they are not revived to full health. Overall, Adam Warlock is a relatively intriguing pick, but he is not as strong as some of his strategist counterparts.

Cloak & Dagger is Better at Taking Down Enemies Than Supporting Allies

Strategists need to have ways to defend themselves so that they can help their allies. However, sometimes the balance will sway too far in one direction and the character will become too combat-focused. This is precisely what happens with Cloak & Dagger’s character design, as the ability to swap between two characters should be great in all situations, but the damage of Cloak is far superior to Dagger’s healing.

Cloak & Dagger is an intriguing duo character that has viable crowd control and solid healing, but their damage is far more than their healing potential, making them ironically a better DPS than a healer. Overall, Cloak & Dagger needs buffs to their healing to make them a better strategist, as their role is currently blurred between two distinct playstyles.

5

Loki is a Nifty Trickster That is Challenging To Play

Team-Ups: Thor & Hela

Some of Marvel Rivals‘ characters have complicated playstyles that take quite a bit of time to master. This is usually reserved for duelists like Spider-Man and Namor, but one strategist stands above the rest in terms of difficulty. Loki has plenty of tricks at his disposal in battle, but they each need to be used perfectly to be a formidable threat against the strongest enemy teams.

Loki is one of the best strategists in Marvel Rivals – here are some tips to make the most of his kit.

Loki’s kit is built around placing clones that increase both his healing and his damage. Furthermore, he can teleport himself to his clones as long as they are close to him, making him easily able to reposition himself during a fight. Because of this, Loki is an amazingly versatile character, and his ability to copy enemy kits with his ultimate ability gives them the potential to be one of the best strategists in the game when his kit is used correctly.

Invisible Woman is a Crowd Control Menace

Team-Ups: Mister Fantastic

Map knowledge is an important skill to have in Marvel Rivals, and some characters can make better use of specific maps than others. Characters like Jeff the Land Shark and Spider-Man can take people into the pitfalls of a map while escaping to safety. Furthermore, this skill often allows players to keep their cooldowns up so that they can move on to fighting another enemy. One strategist is best at this, as she has great crowd control abilities that allow her to keep control of space on the map.

Invisible Woman is the newest strategist in Marvel Rivals. She can perfectly position herself behind enemy lines by sneaking around with her invisibility passive. Furthermore, this also allows her to safely get to the point and help her allies. Her ultimate ability is one of the best strategist abilities in the game because it makes all allies that stand inside it invisible while slowing enemies that enter it, making it an amazing piece of utility that allows her to easily take down enemies who get too close to her.

3

Rocket Raccoon is a Dual-Threat in Battle

Some strategists have a primary focus on healing their allies, while others have multiple jobs in battle. Characters like Cloak & Dagger occasionally function like another duelist, so it is important to balance characters like that out with other strategists who can deal immense damage while also dishing out phenomenal healing to their allies. The best dual-threat strategist in Marvel Rivals is Rocket Raccoon, and he has some of the best abilities of any strategist in the game.

It’s all about the support.

Rocket Raccoon has a primary fire that is designed to deal damage and a secondary fire that heals allies. Because these are on separate buttons, Rocket can shift between healing his allies and taking down enemies that are chasing him down. Furthermore, he can revive allies in a spot that is hidden from enemies, making his ability more versatile than Adam Warlock’s ultimate. Overall, Rocket Raccoon is an amazing character that is well-positioned in the current meta.

Mantis is One of Marvel Rivals’ Most Versatile Characters

Buffing allied damage is a relatively rare ability in Marvel Rivals. Rocket Raccoon’s ultimate buffs the damage of all allies in the area, but only one strategist can place their damage buff on an individual target with a non-ultimate ability; Mantis has the best single-target abilities of any strategist in the game, and she has abilities for both her allies and her enemies.

Mantis has one of the best crowd control effects in the game, as she can put her enemy to sleep unless their own allies wake them up in a short time. Furthermore, she has a similar ability for allies that increases their damage while it is equipped to them. Overall, Mantis is a phenomenally supportive ally that any player would be happy to have on their team in a match.

1

Luna Snow is the Best Strategist in Marvel Rivals

Some Ulitmate abilities in Marvel Rivals are phenomenally frustrating to deal with. Moon Knight’s ultimate is currently bugged and deals more damage than it is supposed to and Winter Soldier’s ultimate is one of the most terrifying abilities in the game. However, the best ultimate in the game belongs to the game’s best strategist, Luna Snow.

Luna Snow can freeze her enemies in place so that her allies can take her down. Furthermore, she can heal multiple allies at once with her primary fire because she can mark one ally so that she heals them when she is healing another ally. Her ultimate ability can heal or damage allies and enemies in the area, making her allies almost impossible to take down when it is active. Overall, Luna Snow is a phenomenally versatile character and is by far the best strategist in the game.
