One Piece: Why Shanks Is Stronger Than Kaido

Kaido is a powerful One Piece character. Shanks however surpasses him.

At the same time, the country of Elbaf is deeply connected to the Sun God Nika, as was made clear to the fans in the Egghead Arc of One Piece. Oda delivered upon all the expectations in One Piece chapter 1136, when, he revealed some deep lore about the world of One Piece pertaining to the Sun God, Nika. Now, it has officially been confirmed that there were two Nika before Luffy.

Luffy As The Latest Sun God Nika

  • Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi
  • In Wano, Luffy ended up becoming Nika

Luffy’s evolution into the Sun God Nika was something that the fans were shocked to see in the story. After all, no fan had expected Luffy to be a God. However, the Wano Country arc of the series went on to reveal great bits about Luffy’s Devil Fruit, and it turned out to be a Devil Fruit with a godly power. Luffy essentially ate the Nika fruit as a kid, but its true powers were hidden due to the fruit not having been awakened. In the battle against Kaido, Luffy finally managed to hit the next level, especially after he died in combat, and this led to his fruit Awakening. It was here that the Five Elders stepped in and revealed a ton of lore surrounding the Sun God Nika, who they openly claimed to be the Warrior of Liberation and a god with a smile on his face who brings happiness to the oppressed and frees them from their chains. With a body of rubber and a contagious smile, Nika wields the most ridiculous power to ever exist, and that is precisely what Luffy has right now.

To make things more interesting, it was also revealed to the fans that the Nika fruit specifically chose Luffy and this is down to the fact that all Zoan fruits have a will of their own. The fruit itself was evading the World Government for 800 years and it eventually found its way to someone who it considered worthy of being its user— Luffy.

With the power of the Nika fruit, Luffy was able to match Kaido and eventually defeat him in combat. Undoubtedly, Luffy is a worthy successor to Joy Boy and he’s certainly living up to all expectations, especially now that the final war of One Piece is edging closer.

Joy Boy, The Second Sun God

The Nika fruit having multiple users shouldn’t surprise the fans. After all, fans already know about the Devil Fruit reincarnation cycle by this point in the story. Just like all other Devil Fruits, the Nika fruit has had multiple users and has been passed down generations. Before Luffy, this Devil Fruit likely didn’t have any other user for 100s of years, with it having explicitly been stated by the Elders that the Nika fruit hasn’t been awakened in 800 years. This clearly tells the fans the fruit was last Awakened during the Void Century and the one who awakened it was its last user, Joy Boy.

As Vegapunk explained in the Egghead Arc of One Piece, Joy Boy was a particularly interesting person who existed in the Void Century and was born in the Ancient Kingdom. Just like Luffy, he had the power to strength and contract, and he took an all-white transformation that made him the Sun God Nika. His powers were absolutely tremendous. In fact, according to Vegapunk, he was so mighty that Imu and the other 19 Kings had to join forces to take him down, and at the end of a long-fought battle against the Ancient Kingdom, they finally succeeded.

One Piece 1137: What To Expect From The Chapter

One Piece 1137 will be an intense chapter, focusing on some Straw Hats and the Holy Knights. Here’s what to expect.

Joy Boy died at the end of the Void Century, but not before he made sure to pass on the information that he held to the next generation and hope for someone to come again in 800 years and fulfill the Will of D. On the island of Laugh Tale, Joy Boy left the One Piece, which was found by none other than Roger around 26 years ago, as he ended up becoming the Pirate King. With Roger’s death started the Great Pirate Era and all the pirates of the world flocked to the seas.

The Original Sun God Nika From Elbaf

There Existed A Sun God Before Joy Boy

While Joy Boy was, for the longest time, considered to be the first Nika, things have changed quite a bit now. As was made clear, Joy Boy isn’t actually the first Nika. There existed a Nika long before Joy Boy and he fought against some monstrously powerful force strong enough to destroy the world. According to the Elbaphian scripture Harley, it is said that the world of One Piece has already been destroyed twice. Of course, one destruction was after the Void Century, but long before that, likely a few centuries ago, the world underwent several changes and was on the brink of destruction. This disaster was right brought upon by or averted by the Sun God Nika, who Oda gave fans a glimpse of in One Piece chapter 1136.

According to the Giants, it is unknown if Nika is a god of destruction or a god of liberation. All they know is that Nika’s name comes up every time the world is destroyed, which is what confuses Elbaf masses. It is unclear as to who the original Nika fought in battle, or if his existence is simply something that slaves created to feel some sort of deity above in the sky, but hopefully, fans will find out more information on this godly being soon enough, especially since the story is now heading towards the meaty parts of Elbaf, where all the attention is likely going to be turned towards Loki and the Holy Knights, along with the members of the Straw Hat Pirates who are currently openly exploring the land of the Giants. All fans need to do is sit back patiently, and wait for Oda to illustrate these amazing mysteries.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1137, is set to be January 26, 2025.
