Google entered the smartphone space much later than its competitors Samsung, Apple, OnePlus, and almost any other manufacturer you can think of. Yet, they managed to create exceptional devices with a polished user experience and overpowered cameras. This trend has been carried on to their tablets, which don’t get as much spotlight as they should. The rave about tablets has died down in recent years, but there are unique additions in this sector now and then.
One such device is the Google Pixel Tablet, which aims to replace the smart home display: the Nest Hub Max. This happened after Google acquired Nest and decided to make the Nest Hub more utilitarian.

Will the Google Pixel Tablet 2 become the ultimate tablet for smart home automation, work, and play?
Currently, you can pick up the Google Pixel Tablet for $279, which is 30% less than its MSRP of $399. This tablet and smart home device is a great choice to elevate your living space with Google Assistant and stay connected with other IoT devices.
Google Pixel Tablet Specs and Features

Powering the device is the octa-core Tensor G2 SoC with the Mali-G710 MP7 GPU, which is more than adequate for running basic applications and light internet browsing. The variant on sale comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which isn’t expandable via an SD card. This tablet isn’t trying to be the best out there and replace your expensive computer. The design is understated and minimalistic but has a solid aluminum build with a soft-touch coating on the back.
The tablet comes in two colorways: Hazel (light gray) and Porcelain (off-white). You can buy the charging and speaker dock, which mimics the Nest Hub’s appearance, and it’s supposed to stay connected to the dock when not being used.

The Android 13-based tablet leverages Google Assistant’s intelligence to communicate with other smart home devices connected to the same network. You can control your room lighting via the Philips Hue app or the Bluetooth speakers with simple voice commands, just like you’d do in the case of a Nest Audio or Amazon Echo Show. Tasks like asking Google Assistant for quick and easy recipes for dinner, creating a to-do list or just general trivia are where the tablet shines.

If you want to use the tablet to unwind and watch your favorite shows on Netflix, then the four side-firing speakers get the job done. They are loud and bass-heavy but aren’t made for audiophiles. Paired with the dock, the output is louder and pretty decent when playing your favorite tracks. The 10.95-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 offers accurate colors and a pleasant viewing experience. The 7000mAh battery offers plenty of juice for daily tasks and can charge up rapidly thanks to its 65W wired charging.

Overall, the Google Pixel Tablet is just a mid-range handheld device that doubles as a smart home display and increases its usability. Usually, smart home devices serve only one purpose and can go neglected from time to time, so Google noticed this and gave the Pixel Tablet more purpose. For its MSRP, it would be a hard sell, but for the discounted price of $280, it has the potential to be a decent multi-functional home device.
