The Goonies star Robert Davi is worried that he won’t be asked to return for the film’s the recently-announced sequel because of his outspoken political beliefs.

The actor, 73, told Fox Digital that he’d love to reprise his role as the opera-crooning villain Jake Fratelli in the forthcoming installment, but that he’s “concerned” he won’t be invited back at all due to his conservative views.

“I do hope I’m part of it,” he told the outlet. “I hope that they don’t hold my politics against me and keep me from that project.”

Davi, who has been a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump since before he first ran for president, explained that not getting a call about the project is a real cause of concern for him because his conservatism has cost him gigs in the past.

“I’m concerned about it, yes,” he said. “Because it’s happened on other issues, other projects. And it’s just, you know, I believe in free speech and not being politically correct all the time.”

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Warner Bros. and Amblin Entertainment for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Davi added that people “still reach out” to him about his role in the 1985 action-adventure film to this day.

“The funny part about it is [Richard] Donner, the director, originally said when we did the film, he told me, he says, ‘This is going to be like the modern day Wizard of Oz,” he said. “And it’s become that for many, many people. And I get multiple generational families that come up to me and tell me how much they love Goonies and how much they love Jake Fratelli because they put the singing in there.”

The Goonies followed a group of kids — played by Sean AstinKe Huy QuanCorey Feldman, and Jeff Cohen — as they raced against the Fratelli family to become the first to find long-lost pirate treasure to save their homes from foreclosure. The film was written by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg, who also produced the project through Amblin Entertainment.

Last Friday, a Warner Bros. representative confirmed to EW that a sequel to the cult classic was officially in the works, with Potsy Ponciroli writing its screenplay. Columbus and Spielberg are also returning to produce the project, alongside Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment colleagues Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario. Donner’s wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, will also serve as executive producer.
