In this episode of BC Food News, Jennifer English discusses Canada’s government’s support measures for the agricultural sector following steep tariffs imposed by China on key Canadian exports, such as canola oil, pork, and peas. Canada’s Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Kody Blois, announced increased support through the AgriStability program and activation of interim payments for faster financial relief. Despite these challenging circumstances, efforts to create new markets and diversify trading partnerships are in progress. In addition, Jennifer highlights that beyond immediate help, Farm Credit Canada has announced substantial new lending, and a new series of applications are now open under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership to help the industry expand and seize new opportunities.
