Grimes saw the headlines this month about her publicly telling ex Elon Musk that their son should not be in front of the press at the White House.
“It was like, ‘Grimes slams,’ ‘Grimes speaks out.’ It’s like, okay, it was a reply. But I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,” Grimes told Time in an interview published Monday. “I think fame is something you should consent to. Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking.”
Grimes shares three young children with Musk, the tech mogul and senior adviser to President Donald Trump, with whom she was in an on-again, off-again relationship for several years. They’re parents to X Æ A-Xii, 4; Exa Dark Sideræl, 3; and 2-year-old Techno Mechanicus, per PEOPLE. After their split in 2022, they had a contentious custody fight, which left her claiming in November that she hadn’t seen one of her kids for months.
She “spoke out” after Musk took their eldest son, who’s nicknamed “Little X,” inside the Oval Office. “He should not be in public like this,” the singer wrote on social media. “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

Her latest comment comes days after Grimes sent another public message to her ex, which the Time interview noted had happened after she spoke to them. Her words were shared on Musk’s X, but have since been deleted.
“Plz respond about our child’s medical crisis,” she pleaded Feb. 21. “I am sorry to do this publicly but it is no longer acceptable to ignore this situation. This requires immediate attention.”

She offered to work with a mediary.
“If you don’t want to talk to me can you please designate or hire someone who can so that we can move forward on solving this,” Grimes continued. “This is urgent, Elon.”
While she didn’t provide information about what the crisis was, the singer provided some information in her replies to some of the comments.
“I’m not giving any details but he won’t respond to texts call or emails and has skipped every meeting and our child will suffer life long impairment if he doesn’t respond asap,” Grimes said.
She explained then why she felt she had to take the conversation public.
“So I need him to f—ing respond and if I have to apply public pressure then I guess that’s where we’re at.”
