The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) announced upcoming improvements to the North and South Campgrounds at Harrison Lake State Park, requiring temporary closures.

While the campgrounds will be unavailable during construction, visitors can still access the park’s day-use amenities, including the beach, lake, boat docks, primitive campground, and shelterhouses.

“This project highlights our commitment to providing safe, modern, and enjoyable outdoor experiences for visitors,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said, as reported by The West Bend News on February 27.

“We’re excited to enhance the camping amenities at Harrison Lake while preserving the park’s natural beauty and rich history for future generations to enjoy,” Mertz added.

The North Campground upgrades will convert 65 of its 126 electric sites into full hookup sites.

Additionally, the dump station will be reconstructed, and the shower house will be demolished and rebuilt. This section of the campground is expected to reopen in October.

At the South Campground, ODNR plans to convert seven full hookup sites into pull-through sites, enhancing accessibility for larger RVs. The South Campground is slated to reopen in June, offering improved convenience for visitors.

Harrison Lake State Park, once part of an extensive wetland, is known for its diverse wildlife and recreational opportunities. The park attracts visitors for camping, boating, swimming, picnicking, and hiking.

Nearby historic sites, such as Sauder Village, further enhance the visitor experience.

ODNR’s campground improvement efforts align with its broader mission of conservation and outdoor recreation enhancement. The upgrades at Harrison Lake are part of a statewide initiative to modernize facilities and improve visitor experiences.

The temporary closures of the North and South Campgrounds aim to minimize disruptions while ensuring long-term benefits for campers and outdoor enthusiasts. By upgrading amenities, ODNR seeks to meet growing demand for modernized camping facilities.
