San Antonio is hosting another nationally televised basketball event this spring — the HBCU All-Star Game, featuring both a men’s and a women’s game for the first time in its history.
The games will tip off April 6 at the Freeman Coliseum on San Antonio’s East Side, after a weeklong festival, where 48 basketball players enrolled at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (24 men and 24 women) will be featured.
Tickets for the HBCU All-Star Basketball games are on sale now and start at $28.
Participating athletes in the fourth annual game will represent all four historically Black athletic conferences, including the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference which includes Howard University, the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, plus student athletes from Tennessee State University, Hampton University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
HBCU All-Stars LLC is hosting its first-ever women’s basketball All-Star Game this year to make sure “they receive visibility, equality, national and global coverage on that court that afternoon,” according to a press release from the organization.
The double header matchup will start with the men’s game at noon, then the women’s game will be played following the men’s game.
Before the games, an All-Stars Fan Fest and Business Expo will take place outside of the Freeman Coliseum starting at 9 a.m., a and College Admissions Fair will happen inside the Freeman Coliseum starting at 10:30 a.m.
Greek alumni from sororities and fraternities that form the Divine Nine will showcase performances that celebrate Black History, Black excellence and cultural experiences, adding to the richness, high energy and showmanship of the All-Star games for players and fans watching in person and around the world.
Overlapping with this tournament and a few miles away at the Alamodome, the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Final Four will be in full gear.
The city will already be filled with thousands of sports fans including marching bands, cheerleaders, dance teams and alumni April 4-7 for the March Madness Final Four. There are several fan events that week, including a free three-day music festival starting on April 4 in Tower Park at Hemisfair.
