Acclaimed video game auteur Hideo Kojima expresses confusion over the events of Captain America: Brave New World.
In a February 23 X post, Kojima wrote, “I watched Captain America: Brave New World in IMAX. I vaguely remember Sam receiving the shield in Endgame, but when did he officially become Cap? Is it because I haven’t seen The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?” Kojima added, “And what’s this about the Avengers being reorganized? I’m also getting it mixed up with the Thunderbolts trailer.”

Julius Onah explains why Brave New World features a special thanks to an acclaimed actor who does not appear in the film.
Captain America: Brave New World is the fourth entry in Marvel Studios’ Captain America feature film series and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall. Continuing from the events of 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the film stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, aka the Falcon. When the duo are sent south of the border on a mission orchestrated by newly elected President of the United States Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford, it sets off a series of explosive events tied to an underlying conspiracy revolving around the villainous efforts of the Serpent Society, Samuel Sterns, and even the President of the United States himself.
Captain America: Brave New World Has Divisive Reviews
Captain America: Brave New World arrived in theaters on February 14, opening to largely middling-to-negative reviews from critics. At the time of writing, Captain America: Brave New World holds a 49% “Fresh” rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes averaged across 300 critical reviews, while its audience score, or “Popcornmeter” rating sits much higher at 80% gathered from more than 5,000 user reviews.

Shortly after the film’s release, Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah discussed the decision to keep Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk silent throughout his time on screen. “Whether or not Red Hulk should talk, that was something that came up quite a bit,” Onah explained. “My feeling was that he shouldn’t, which is what is the case in the movie. The transformation that Ross is dealing with and the struggle that Ross is dealing with emotionally in this film is trying to move away from what he’s been known as, as Thunderbolt Ross.”
