Hipcamp, a platform for discovering and booking campsites, has announced the appointment of Erik Blachford to its board of directors.

Blachford, a seasoned travel industry executive with extensive experience in marketplace and tech sectors, will bring his expertise to support Hipcamp’s mission to connect people with nature, empower landowners, and promote environmental sustainability.

Blachford’s background includes significant leadership roles at high-profile companies such as Expedia, Zillow, and Peloton.

As the former CEO of Expedia, he played a key role in the company’s rapid global expansion and helped establish it as a leader in online travel.

His tenure also included leadership at IAC Travel, overseeing brands like Hotels.com and Hotwire. Blachford’s deep commitment to sustainability is reflected in his previous roles, including as CEO of TerraPass and in his involvement with the Adventure Travel Trade Association.

In his new role, Blachford will focus on strategic growth for Hipcamp, advising on marketing initiatives, partnerships, operations, and potential mergers or acquisitions.

His leadership will also contribute to the company’s efforts to expand its brand and enhance its platform for outdoor enthusiasts.

“Hipcamp has built an incredible platform that not only makes outdoor experiences more accessible but also empowers landowners and fosters environmental stewardship,” said Blachford. “I look forward to the work ahead as we continue to redefine how people explore the outdoors.”

A key feature of Blachford’s career is his extensive experience in early-stage investment. He has been an investor in several travel and consumer ventures, including Busbud, Hotel Tonight, and TourRadar. He also owns Camp Nominingue, a wilderness adventure camp in Quebec, further underscoring his passion for outdoor experiences.

Alyssa Ravasio, founder and CEO of Hipcamp, expressed excitement about Blachford’s appointment.

“Erik’s deep knowledge of the travel and sustainability sectors, combined with his passion for getting people outside, makes him the perfect addition to Hipcamp’s board,” she said.

Blachford’s track record includes his leadership at Couchsurfing, a global community-driven hospitality platform, and his work as a board member for innovative companies like Zillow and Peloton.
