Hoe Grange Holidays, a Derbyshire-based glamping and self-catering business, has been named a finalist in the inaugural Green Growth Awards, a competition recognizing small businesses that integrate sustainability into their operations to drive growth.
The awards, launched by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT, will provide £5,000 grants to two small businesses demonstrating both environmental responsibility and financial success, according to a report by Derbyshire Times.
Hoe Grange Holidays, operated by the Brown family, has built a reputation for its eco-conscious approach to outdoor hospitality.
Located between Ashbourne and Bakewell, the business incorporates renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power, heat pumps, and eco-friendly insulation to maintain guest comfort while minimizing environmental impact.
Last year, they installed a battery storage system to optimize energy efficiency, allowing surplus electricity to be stored for use at night or during low-generation periods.
Caroline Brown emphasized that sustainability is at the core of the business model. “We’re thrilled to be recognized for our commitment to green growth.
At Hoe Grange Holidays, sustainable tourism isn’t just a choice – it’s our way of life. It’s not just about reducing our footprint, but about inspiring our guests to join us in protecting our planet too.”
For outdoor hospitality operators, Hoe Grange’s success highlights how sustainability can be a strategic advantage.
By implementing eco-friendly technologies and community-driven initiatives, the business has not only reduced its carbon footprint by 77% in the last three years but has also strengthened its brand appeal to environmentally conscious travelers.
Cost savings on energy and operational efficiencies further demonstrate the financial viability of green investments.
The Green Growth Awards aim to showcase businesses leveraging sustainability for long-term success.
“These businesses are proving that greener practices not only benefit the planet but also create real business success—whether through cost savings, waste reduction, or deeper customer engagement,” said Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain.
With an estimated 5.5 million small businesses contributing to half of the UK’s business emissions, initiatives like the Green Growth Awards encourage more companies to assess their environmental impact.
BT, a partner in the awards, also supports the Willow Review, an independent study aimed at strengthening the financial case for sustainability within small businesses.
Winners of the Green Growth Awards will be announced at BT’s London headquarters on March 11, 2025.
